Quantitative analysis of spatially resolved valence electron energy-loss spectra shows strong physical property contrasts for Sigma5 and near Sigma13 grain boundaries in Fe-doped SrTiO3, resulting in London dispersion interaction energies of 14 to 50 mJ/m(2) between the adjacent grains. The determination of local physical properties of grain boundary cores and the appreciable contribution of long-range London dispersion to interface energies provides new information on formation and control of interfaces in materials.

Botswana, like the rest of the world, has been significantly impacted by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In December 2022, we detected a monophyletic cluster of genomes comprising a sublineage of the Omicron variant of concern (VOC) designated as B.1.

Epilepsy is one of the oldest neurological disorders discovered by mankind. This condition is firmly coupled with unprovoked seizures stimulated by irrepressible neuroelectrical blasts. Orally taken valproate family has been employed for prophylactic management; however, oral administration is not applicable for critical scenarios, thus calling for medication routes fulfilling necessities of immediate innervation.

Exploiting solid powder fluorescence holds significant potential in diverse domains including medicine and forensics. Conventional fingerprint detection methods often fall short due to low contrast, sensitivity, and high toxicity. To addressing these challenges, we present a novel method for latent fingerprint detection using fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) encapsulated into conventional or mesoporous SiO colloidal spheres (CD@SiO or CDs@m-SiO) through a surface functionalization-assisted cooperative assembly process.

The mechanical performance of mixed plastic waste from shredder residue is hindered by brittleness and catastrophic failure, limiting its potential applications. In this study, the mechanical properties of mixed plastic is enhanced by reinforcement with rayon fibers through a wet powder impregnation process to leverage the fiber's ductility and entanglement. However, mixed plastic remains poorly dispersed in water during the composite manufacturing, resulting in poorly consolidated composite, which further deteriorates the mechanical properties of mixed plastic from 1.

Unlabelled: The dispersive and polar properties of materials, and especially of polymers and copolymers, play an important role in several engineering applications implying their surfaces and interfaces. The surface energetic properties of poly(styrene-co-butadiene) have never been studied. We proposed in this study an accurate determination of such properties by using inverse gas chromatography (IGC) at infinite dilution.
