Published: November 2004

Single molecule rotational correlation functions are analyzed for several reorientation geometries. Even for the simplest model of isotropic rotational diffusion our findings predict nonexponential correlation functions to be observed by polarization sensitive single molecule fluorescence microscopy. This may have a deep impact on interpreting the results of molecular reorientation measurements in heterogeneous environments.

Plasma phosphorylated tau biomarkers open unprecedented opportunities for identifying carriers of Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology in early disease stages using minimally invasive techniques. Plasma p-tau biomarkers are believed to reflect tau phosphorylation and secretion. However, it remains unclear to what extent the magnitude of plasma p-tau abnormalities reflects neuronal network disturbance in the form of cognitive impairment.

Short-term orthokeratology effects on corneal biomechanics with a focus on SPA1 and stress-strain index (SSI) parameters in pediatric myopia.

Arq Bras Oftalmol

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Guangdong Eye Institute, Guangdong General Hospital, Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences. No. 106 Zhongshan Er Road, Guangzhou 510080, China.

Purpose: Although the orthokeratology effects on corneal biomechanics have been proven with clinical trials, reports of stiffness parameter change are scarce. This study investigated the short-term orthokeratology effects in pediatric myopia and compared stiffness parameter changes to those published in recent clinical investigations. This prospective study aimed to investigate corneal biomechanics changes induced by short-term overnight orthokeratology treatment, focusing on stiffness parameter at A1 and stress-strain index.

Psychophysical assessment of color vision with the Cambridge Color Vision Test in unilateral functional amblyopia.

Arq Bras Oftalmol

January 2025

Research Nucleus in Neuroscience and Behavior and Applied Neuroscience, Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil.

Purpose: Amblyopia is a cortical neurological disorder caused by abnormal visual experiences during the critical period for visual development. Recent works have shown that, in addition to the well-known visual alterations, such as changes in visual acuity, several perceptual aspects of vision are affected. This study aims to analyze and compare the effects of different types of amblyopia on visual color processing and determine whether these effects are correlated with visual acuity.

Species of the complex cause postbloom fruit drop of citrus and anthracnose fruit rot of strawberries. produces acervuli in diseased citrus flowers and strawberry fruit, surviving asymptomatically on vegetative tissues. Previous studies have suggested that dispersal mechanisms other than windblown rain may be involved in dispersal of conidia of sensu lato.

Sleep alterations have been described in several neurodegenerative diseases yet are currently poorly characterized in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This study investigates sleep macroarchitecture and related hypothalamic signaling disruptions in ALS. Using polysomnography, we found that both patients with ALS as well as asymptomatic and mutation carriers exhibited increased wakefulness and reduced non-rapid eye movement sleep.
