An explicit evaluation of the spin asymmetry of the deuteron and the associated Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule is presented which includes photodisintegration, and single and double pion and eta production as well. Photodisintegration is treated with a realistic retarded potential and a corresponding meson exchange current. For single pion and eta production the elementary operator from MAID is employed, whereas for double pion production, an effective Lagrangian approach is used. A large cancellation between the disintegration and the meson production channels yields for the explicit GDH integral a value of 27.31 microb to be compared to the sum rule value 0.65 microb.

Background: The earliest cognitive manifestations of asymptomatic and prodromal familial frontotemporal dementia (f-FTD) mutation carriers are still being characterized. Patients with symptomatic FTD are known to be error prone, particularly on tasks of executive function, but little is known about the frequency or predictive utility of these errors in the earliest stages of f-FTD. The current study compared error rates on executive functioning tasks in controls and asymptomatic and prodromal mutation carriers and investigated whether errors predict worsening clinical status as follow up.

In this paper, we give a class of one-dimensional discrete dynamical systems with state space N+. This class of systems is defined by two parameters: one of them sets the number of nearest neighbors that determine the rule of evolution, and the other parameter determines a segment of natural numbers Λ={1,2,…,b}. In particular, we investigate the behavior of a class of one-dimensional maps where an integer moves to an other integer given by the sum of the nearest neighbors minus a multiple of b∈N+.

Article Synopsis
  • Findings indicate that higher cumulative HIV viral load (VL) and lower CD4 cell counts are significantly linked to an increased risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE) in people living with HIV (PWH).
  • A study involving over 21,000 PWH over nearly five years revealed that those with higher cumulative VL had a 45% increased risk of VTE compared to those with lower VL. Additionally, a CD4 count below 100 cells/mm³ was associated with a fourfold increase in risk.
  • The research suggests that managing HIV viral load and maintaining CD4 levels could be crucial strategies to lower the risk of VTE in PWH.

Article Synopsis
  • A mixed integer programming model was developed to prioritize fuel treatments in a fuel break network, aiming to reduce wildfire size and protect Wildland Urban Interface areas.
  • The model utilizes simulated wildfire data from a large landscape to inform effective fuel treatment decisions while maintaining computational efficiency and customization options.
  • Testing in Southern California showed that the optimization model outperforms traditional rule-based approaches, providing better solutions for fuel break management and planning within a reasonable timeframe.

The vacuum Rabi splitting (VRS) in molecular polaritons stands as a fundamental measure of collective light-matter coupling. Despite its significance, the impact of molecular disorder on VRS is not fully understood yet. This study delves into the complexities of VRS amidst various distributions and degrees of disorder.
