Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency of asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome.
Methods: Two-dimensional and pulsed Doppler echocardiography of transmitral flow was performed on 27 patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome, aged 66.9+/-5.6 years, and 24 healthy volunteers aged 63.9+/-6.5 years. Left ventricular (LV) systolic contraction and ejection were assessed by LV ejection fraction (EF) and fractional shortening (FS). LV diastolic filling parameters tested were: early fast diastolic filling (E wave), late diastolic filling (A wave), ratio E/A, velocity time integral E wave (VTIE) and A wave (VTIA), their ratio (VTIE/VTIA), pressure at the end of filling (LVEDP) and a pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP).
Results: Systolic parameters EF and FS, diastolic filling parameters such as A, LVEDP and PCWP were not significantly different between patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome and controls (P>0.05). A significant difference (P<0.05) was found with regard to the diastolic filling parameters: E (61.6+/-15.1 vs 83.7+/-21.4), ratio E/A (0.8+/-0.1 vs 1.1+/-0.2), VTIE (8.6+/-1.8 vs 9.8+/-1.9), VTIA (10.3+/-2.4 vs 7.8+/-1.6) and ratio VTIA/VTIE (1.2+/-0.2 vs 0.8+/-0.2).
Conclusion: Our study suggests the possibility of an association between patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome and a discrete asymptomatic myocardial diastolic dysfunction.

Aim: To establish an imaging-based method to quantify left ventricular (LV) diastolic pressures.
Methods/results: In 115 patients suspected of coronary artery disease, LV pressure was measured by micromanometers and images by echocardiography. LV filling pressure was measured as LV pre-atrial contraction pressure (pre-A PLV).

Aims: While most clinical guidelines recommend using a 64-projection view technique, some protocols do not specify a preference between 32-projection and 64-projection methods for conducting myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS), which shows the lack of consensus in this matter. Nevertheless, these guidelines and protocols have not provided us with compelling evidence to support why the 64-projection technique is usually chosen. Thus, we aimed to determine if there is a significant difference between them in the assessment of cardiac perfusion and functional indices.

Growth hormone (GH) signaling is essential for heart development. Both GH deficiency and excess raise cardiovascular risk. Human (h) and mouse (m) GH differ structurally and functionally: hGH binds both the GH receptor (GHR) and prolactin receptor (PRLR), whereas mGH binds only GHR; thus, there is the potential for differential effects.

Aim: To study the relationship between laboratory markers and echocardiography (EchoCG) parameters in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) depending on the results of the diastolic stress test (DST).
Material And Methods: The diagnostic algorithm provided by the current guidelines for the assessment of left ventricular (LV) diastolic function was used to select patients. If there were not enough criteria to make a conclusion about increased LV filling pressure (FP) based on standard resting echocardiography data in patients with arterial hypertension and ischemic heart disease, DST was performed to detect HFpEF.

: Resistance exercises (REs) are a type of physical activity that individuals from many age groups have been doing recreationally, both as amateurs and professionally, in their daily lives in recent years. It is crucial to understand the effects of such sports on cardiac morphology in order to maximize the benefit of training and to tailor the training content accordingly. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between training experience (TE) and left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic parameters and left atrial (LA) mechanical function in healthy subjects who regularly performed RE for different durations.
