Background: It is crucial to distinguish type-1 myocardial infarction (T1MI) from type-2 myocardial infarction (T2MI) at admission and during hospitalization to avoid unnecessary invasive exams and inappropriate admissions to the acute cardiac care unit.

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to define a simple profile derived from commonly used biomarkers to differentiate T1MI from T2MI.

Methods: We prospectively enrolled in an observational study 213 iconsecutive patients with a provisional diagnosis of non-ST-elevation acute myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) admitted to the Cardiology Department.

Background: Oral fluid contains analytes that may be reflective of health and welfare in pig herds. Additionally, oral fluid collection is a more convenient and cost-effective option when compared to blood sampling, increasing the potential of oral fluid as a non-invasive alternative tool. While a growing number of biomarkers can be measured in porcine oral fluid, the use of these analytes to compare commercial herds in veterinary practice is still limited.

Background And Objectives: Nosocomial pneumonia caused by multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria presents a significant challenge for healthcare systems, as there are limited effective treatments available. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to investigate the outcomes of colistin plus meropenem combination therapy on nosocomial pneumonia.

Materials And Methods: An exhaustive search of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science (WOS), and Embase databases was conducted, resulting in the extraction of 5 studies for qualitative assessment and meta-analysis.

Anastomotic leaks (ALs) remain a serious postoperative complication in colorectal surgery, often resulting in significant morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, and increased mortality risk. This systematic review aims to evaluate the role of predictive biomarkers in the early detection of ALs, focusing on their diagnostic accuracy and clinical utility. Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted across MEDLINE, Scopus, CENTRAL, and Web of Science, identifying studies that examined biomarkers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), and white blood cell (WBC) count in the context of AL.

All-in-one microfluidic immunosensing device for rapid and end-to-end determination of salivary biomarkers of cardiovascular diseases.

Biosens Bioelectron

March 2025

School of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, Ningbo University, Ningbo, Zhejiang, 315200, China. Electronic address:

Routine screening for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) through point-of-care assays for at-home or community-based testing of salivary biomarkers can significantly improve patient outcomes. However, its translatability has been hindered by a dearth of biosensing devices that streamline assay procedures for rapid biomarker quantitation. To address this challenge through end-to-end engineering, we developed an in-house, all-in-one microfluidic immunosensing device that integrates on-chip vibration-enhanced incubation, magnetic-assisted separation using immune magnetic bead probes, and colorimetric readout via absorbance measurements.
