Background And Purpose: Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are associated with endothelial repair after ischemia in cardiac or peripheral circulation. There are no reports of EPCs with cerebrovascular disease. We present our experience with EPCs in patients with cerebrovascular disease.
Summary Of Report: EPC counts differed significantly (P<0.001) between stroke patients (acute stroke: median 4.75 and range 0 to 33; stable stroke: median 7.25 and range 0 to 43) and control subjects (median 15.5 and range 4.3 to 50), independent of age. The level of EPCs was significantly correlated with the Framingham coronary risk score (FCRS) (rho=-0.349; P=0.002).
Conclusions: Similar to cardiac experience, the low EPC levels may play a role in the pathophysiology of cerebrovascular disease.

Definitive hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) arise from a small number of hemogenic endothelial cells (HECs) within the developing embryo. Understanding the origin and ontogeny of HSPCs is of considerable interest and potential therapeutic value. It has been proposed that the murine placenta contains HECs that differentiate into HSPCs.

Rationale: The biodegradable polymer BioMatrix Alpha™ stent contains biolimus A9 drug which is sirolimus derivative increase in lipophicity. The biodegradable polymer sirolimus eluting Combo™ stent is a dual-therapy sirolimus-eluting and CD34+ antobody coated stent capturing endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs).
Hypothesis: The main hypothesis of the SORT OUT XI trial was that the biodegradable polymer biolimus A9 BioMatrix Alpha ™ stent is noninferior to the biodegradable polymer sirolimus eluting Combo™ stent in an all-comers population with coronary artery disease undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Dendritic cells (DCs) are key cellular components of the immune system and perform critical functions in innate and acquired immunity. In mammals, it is generally believed that DCs originate exclusively from hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). Using a temporal-spatial resolved fate-mapping system, here we show that in zebrafish, DCs arise from two sources: dorsal aorta-born endothelium-derived hematopoietic progenitors (EHPs) and HSCs.

Introduction: Effects of Dapagliflozin (Dapa) and Dapagliflozin-Saxagliptin combination (Combo) was examined on peripheral blood derived CD34 + Hematopoetic Stem Cells (HSCs) as a cellular CVD biomarker. Both Dapa (a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 or SGLT2, receptor inhibitor) and Saxagliptin (a Di-peptydl-peptidase-4 or DPP4 enzyme inhibitor) are commonly used type 2 diabetes mellitus or T2DM medications, however the benefit of using the combination has not been evaluated for cardio-renal risk assessment, in a real-life practice setting, compared to a placebo.
Hypothesis: We hypothesized that Dapa will improve the outcomes when compared to placebo and the Combo maybe even more beneficial.

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) generate blood and immune cells. Here, we present a protocol to differentiate human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) into hematopoietic progenitors that express the signature HSC transcription factors HLF, HOXA5, HOXA7, HOXA9, and HOXA10. hPSCs are dissociated, seeded, and then sequentially differentiated into posterior primitive streak, lateral mesoderm, artery endothelium, hemogenic endothelium, and hematopoietic progenitors through the sequential addition of defined, serum-free media.
