Auricular foreign bodies are usually presented to the emergency department in an easily recognizable fashion. We report the case of a 16-year-old male who presented to the emergency department with complaints of unilateral tinnitus and dysgeusia. He denied any history of injury except for falling from his bike in the woods earlier that day. On examination, a wooden foreign body was found in the external auditory canal. A computed tomography scan revealed a 3-cm-long twig that pierced the middle ear disrupting the ossicles. He was taken to the operating room for removal and microscopic evaluation. On evaluation, the chorda tympani nerve was found to be severed along with disruption of the ossicles. This is an unusual presentation for an aural foreign body, and the resulting injury of the chorda tympani is not well published. One should consider the possibility of injury to the middle and inner ear and perform the necessary clinical evaluation before and after removal of aural foreign bodies.

Long coronavirus disease (COVID) refers to the persistence of symptoms long after the recovery from the acute phase of the illness, and it is due to the interplay of various inflammatory mechanisms. This has led to emergence of new deficits, including otorhinolaryngological symptoms, in patients wo have recovered from COVID. The plethora of otorhinolaryngological symptoms associated with long COVID are tinnitus, sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), vertigo, nasal congestion, sinonasal discomfort, hyposmia/anosmia, dysgeusia, sore throat, dry cough, dyspnea, dysphagia, and hoarseness of voice.

To systematically review the cases of anosmia or ageusia after receiving the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine. A systematic search was conducted in electronic databases, including Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, and PubMed, to identify any published study that evaluated the anosmia or ageusia after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, including case reports, case series, letter to editor articles with reported cases regarding our topic, or observational studies with at least 1 eligible patient consisted with our criteria. We excluded the studies that reported anosmia or ageusia due to COVID-19 infection and non-COVID-19 vaccines.
