This paper reports on the preparation of polyester brushes at the surface of electrically conducting materials. A two-step strategy has been worked out that consists of the electropolymerization of an acrylate under a cathodic potential, such that the polyacrylate layer is chemisorbed at the surface. In a second step, either preformed poly(epsilon-caprolactone) chains are grafted onto the polyacrylate sublayer or the ring-opening polymerization of epsilon-caprolactone is initiated from it.

Designing Hybrid Plasmonic Superlattices with Spatially Confined Responsive Heterostructural Units.

Nano Lett

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Solidification Processing, Center of Advanced Lubrication and Seal Materials, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi'an 710072, P.R. China.

Plasmonic superlattices enable the precise manipulation of electromagnetic fields at the nanoscale. However, the optical properties of static lattices are dictated by their geometry and cannot be reconfigured. Here, we present a surface-interface engineered plasmonic superlattice with confined polyelectrolyte-functionalized metal-organic framework (MOF) hybrid layers to tune plasmon resonance for ultrafast chemical sensing.

Construction of Loop Polyzwitterion Brushes on PET Sheets via the Chain-End Closure Strategy To Improve Antifouling and Hemocompatible Properties.

Langmuir

January 2025

Jiangsu Collaborative Innovation Center of Biomedical Functional Materials, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Bio-functional Materials, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Chemistry and Materials Science, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing 210023, P. R. China.

Steric stabilization and lubrication give loop polymer brushes enhanced antifouling properties. In the study, linear zwitterionic poly(NMASMCMS) brushes were first constructed on a poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) surface through surface-initiated reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer (SI-RAFT) polymerization. The tethered linear brushes on sheets were then thiolated with ethanolamine, followed by oxidation to form loop brushes.

In this work CS-SDAEM polymer brushes with long-chain structure were synthesized, and TiO/CS-SDAEM nanoparticles were prepared by modifying them on the TiO surface. The prepared modified membrane can effectively degrade dyes through photocatalysis and can reduce the contamination rate of the membrane during use. The separation membrane achieves efficient removal of contamination by self-cleaning.

Objectives: This in vitro study aimed to investigate the toothbrushing wear on both enamel and dentin surfaces of reference and commercially available dentifrices.

Methods: Bovine enamel and dentin blocks were initially polished and embedded within a resin composite in square shapes (10×8×6 mm3). Employing toothbrushes equipped with nylon bristles, a toothbrushing machine was utilized, subjecting dentin specimens (n = 36) to 500 brush cycles and enamel samples to 5000 brush cycles (n = 36).

Background and objective Applying different hygiene tools for implant maintenance alters surface configurations, impacting bacterial adhesion on titanium implant surfaces and potentially leading to peri-implant diseases. This study aimed to assess the alterations in surface topography of titanium implant fixtures after utilizing hygiene instruments such as airflow; erbium, chromium-doped: yttrium, scandium, gallium, and garnet (Er, Cr: YSGG) laser; and titanium brush, under scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation. Materials and methods We employed an experimental laboratory study design for this research, involving 20 MegaGen ST titanium implant fixtures (MegaGen Implant Co.
