Endovascular surgery provides a minimally invasive solution for the treatment of aortic aneurysms. Fluoroscopic guidance involves X-rays exposure and loss of space information. We have developed a navigation system allowing real-time visualisation of the endovascular tools in a 3D model of the vessels without any radiation exposure. A modified endoprosthesis is equipped with a magnetic sensor tracked by the Aurora magnetic localizer. The registration step uses 2.5D ultrasonography to replace pre-operative CT data in the Operating Room referential. The Virtual Reality based navigation system shows the location of the endoprosthesis inside a 3D CT model of the aorta. Endovascular procedure benefits from a reduced radiation exposure.

Qualitative Metascience: A Framework for Cultivating Healthier and More Translationally Impactful Neuroscience-Neuroethics Research Ecosystems.

AJOB Neurosci

January 2025

The Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research, The Broad Institute of MIT, McLean Hospital, Mass General Brigham, and Harvard.

Navigating the demands of translational research requires not only addressing scientific issues, but also managing conflicting sociopolitical, cultural, psychosocial, epistemic, and ethical relationships across diverse communities and academic disciplines. Data and analysis of intensive interviews on these phenomena with researchers are presented here, which led to the co-design of a larger, ongoing study in a neuropsychiatric research community. The results generated a set of hypotheses-particularly regarding conflicts and challenges at the neuroscience-neuroethics interface as experienced by neuroscientists-which have not been fully articulated or examined in the neuroethics literature.

A reward shaping deep deterministic policy gradient (RS-DDPG) and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) path tracking algorithm is proposed to address the issues of low accuracy and poor robustness of target path tracking for robotic control during maneuver. RS-DDPG algorithm is based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL) and designs a reward function to optimize the parameters of DDPG to achieve the required tracking accuracy and stability. A visual SLAM algorithm based on semantic segmentation and geometric information is proposed to address the issues of poor robustness and susceptibility to interference from dynamic objects in dynamic scenes for SLAM based on visual sensors.

Often, when an offender is sentenced their family and friends find themselves in a state of uncertainty. At this point, family and friends of prisoners need support and often find themselves alone to navigate and learn the correctional system to gain visitation approval. It is unknown how people new to visitation learns the rules and processes of prison visits to gain visitation access.

Robot-Assisted Retrograde Elastic Intramedullary Nailing Versus ORIF with a Plate for Displaced Midshaft Clavicular Fractures.

JB JS Open Access

January 2025

Department of Orthopedic Trauma, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, People's Republic of China.

Background: The objective of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of robot-assisted retrograde elastic intramedullary nailing and open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with a plate for displaced midshaft clavicular fractures.

Methods: All patients diagnosed with displaced midshaft clavicular fractures between November 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023, in our level-III hospital (most advanced level) were enrolled in this retrospective study; a total of 116 patients met the inclusion criteria. Patients were divided into 2 groups on the basis of treatment: robot-assisted retrograde elastic intramedullary nailing (RAN group) and ORIF with a plate (plate group).

Navigating the Labyrinth of Gender Incongruence in Conservative Societies: A Call for Compassion and Understanding.

Indian J Endocrinol Metab

December 2024

Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Adhar Health Institute, Hisar, Haryana, India.

In the conservative heartland of Haryana, India, a poignant encounter in a hospital chamber revealed the raw, often overlooked struggles of gender incongruence. A young woman, presenting in masculine attire and identifying herself with the pronouns 'he' and 'him', sought not only medical assistance for transition to male but also the validation of his identity amidst a backdrop of societal prejudice. This case underscores the complexities faced by individuals with gender incongruence in a society resistant to non-binary identities.
