House dust mite (HDM) allergens are one of the most important causes of allergenic diseases in the indoor environment. The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined risk thresholds for Group I HDM allergens as a concentration of 2 and 10 μg/mL in dust for producing asthma risk and polar asthma attacks, respectively. Continuing exposure to high concentrations of HDM allergens greatly increases the risk of developing allergic diseases.

Functional lateralization represents a fundamental aspect of brain organization, where certain cognitive functions are specialized in one hemisphere over the other. Deviations from typical patterns of lateralization often manifest in various brain disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder, schizophrenia, and dyslexia. However, despite its importance, uncovering the intrinsic properties of brain lateralization and its underlying structural basis remains challenging.

The advancements in understanding hemispheric specialization of language (HSL) have been following two primary avenues: the development of neuroimaging techniques and the study of its reorganizations in patients with various neuropathologic conditions. Hence, the objectives of this chapter are twofold. First, to provide an overview of the key neuroimaging techniques employed to investigate HSL, along with the notable findings derived from them in the healthy population.

Conjugated polymers (CPs) are considered one of the most important gas-sensing materials due to their unique features, combining the benefits of both metals and semiconductors, along with their outstanding mechanical properties and excellent processability. However, CPs with conventional morphological structures, such as largely amorphous and bulky matrices, face limitations in practical applications because of their inferior charge transport characteristics, low surface area, and insufficient sensitivity. Therefore, the design and development of novel morphological nanostructures in CPs have attracted significant attention as a promising strategy for improving morphological and electrical characteristics, thereby enabling a considerable increase in the sensing performance of corresponding gas sensors.

Insulin dysregulation (ID) is a common metabolic disorder in horses, characterized by hyperinsulinemia and/or peripheral insulin resistance. The critical role of hyperinsulinemia in endocrinopathic laminitis has driven research into the insulinotropic effects of dietary nutrients and the reciprocal impact of ID on nutrient metabolism. The relationship between ID and carbohydrate metabolism has been extensively studied; however, the effects of ID on protein metabolism in horses remain largely unexplored.
