Objective: To compare adverse neonatal outcomes between trial of vaginal delivery and upfront cesarean delivery for singleton infants born at 24 to 28 weeks of gestation.
Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study that was conducted at a university-affiliated tertiary medical center between 2011 and 2022, involving singleton pregnancies delivered between 24 and 27 weeks of gestation. Participants were divided into two groups based on their intended mode of delivery: a trial of labor (TOL) group and an upfront cesarean delivery (CD) group.

Introduction: Congenital heart disease (CHD) represents the most common group of congenital anomalies, constitutes a significant contributor to the burden of non-communicable diseases, highlighting the critical need for improved risk assessment tools. Artificial intelligence (AI) holds promise in enhancing outcome predictions for congenital cardiac surgery. This study aims to systematically review the utilization of AI in predicting post-operative outcomes in this population.

The limit of periviability is constantly changing as infants born at 22-25 weeks of gestation increasingly survive. The data from our region are limited due to the small numbers of these infants among the NICU population. In this study, we evaluated the survival rates and short-term outcomes among preterm neonates between 22 and 24 weeks of gestation admitted to Tawam Hospital, United Arab Emirates.

Intraventricular hemorrhage in preterm neonates has become a major global health problem and is associated with a high risk of post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH). Identifying diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets is a focal challenge in the PHH prevention and control. Here, this study applies multi-omics analyses to characterize the biochemical, proteomic, and metabolomic profiles of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in clinical human cohorts to investigate disease development and recovery processes occurring due to PHH.

The alpha 1 and 2 chains of type IV collagen, encoded by the COL4A1 (MIM 120130) and COL4A2 (MIM 120090) respectively, play essential roles in the vascular basement membranes. Pathogenic variants in COL4A1/ COL4A2 are associated with autosomal dominant cerebral angiopathies. The clinical manifestations of COL4A1/COL4A2-related disorders include: aneurysms, intracerebral hemorrhage, polymicrogyria, porencephaly, heterotopia, periventricular leukomalacia, epilepsy, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
