Structural characteristics of cardiomyocytes in the right atrium of NISAG rats.

Published: July 2004

Electron microscopy and stereomorphometric analysis of hypertrophic cardiomyocytes in the right atrium of NISAG rats revealed signs of activation of biosynthetic processes: increased relative volume of euchromatin (compared to Wistar rats), high density of nuclear pores, presence of large numerous Golgi complexes, and well-developed endoplasmic reticulum. The numerical density of secretory granules in the cytoplasm of cardiomyocytes in NISAG rats significantly surpassed that in Wistar rats. However, these granules in NISAG rats were smaller than in Wistar rats. The presence of numerous secretory granules and increased ratio of forming and dissolving structures suggest that this pool is characterized by high turnover rate, i.e., intensive synthesis and rapid elimination (consumption) of natriuretic peptide. Hypertrophy and hyperactivity of endocrine function in atrial cardiomyocytes of NISAG rats can be considered as a compensatory reaction to hypertension.

The paper presents the results of studying trace elements (Zn, Cu, Fe, and Mg) in 60 patients with myocardial infarction and Wistar normotensive and NISAG hypertensive rats. Clinical and experimental correspondences of the impaired blood trace element composition have been found in patients and experimental animals and the mechanisms of these disorders.

Structure of zona reticularis of adrenal cortex in hypertensive NISAG rats.

Bull Exp Biol Med

November 2008

Institute of Physiology, Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Russia.

The structure of zona reticularis of the adrenal cortex in hypertensive NISAG rats was studied during the early, middle, and late periods of postnatal ontogeny. The detected morphological signs suggest that hypotrophic changes in zona reticularis of the adrenal cortex in hypertensive rats appeared before the onset of high blood pressure and accompanied the development of arterial hypertension in these animals.

In the spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHR)--line NISAG--most cardiac hystiocytes of the left ventriculum have signs of ultrastructure damage to a variable extent. First of all the contractile and energetic function of cardiac hystiocytes has different abnormalities. Administration of Lipril (20 mg/kg daily, during three months) showed the normalization of the ultrastructure of myocardium of SHR.

The particularities of Walker 256 carcinosarcoma growing were studied in rats depending on hormonal background. Rats of lines NISAG and Brattleboro were characterized by the increased and lowered level of endogenous corticosteroids, respectively, in contrast with rats WAG different dynamics of growing tumors. If rats NISAG are not distinguished from rats WAG on the growing tumors, then the tumor grows weakly in the rats of line Brattleboro, and it takes place during the first fortnight only but then begins a regression up to disappearance.

Repeated stress led to antipodal directions in immune system and cytochrome P450 activities of normotensive and hypertensive rats. Enhancement of the Reaction of Delayed Hypersensitivity, suppression of cytochrome P450-mediated monooxigenase activities were observed in Wistar rats. On the contrary, in the NISAG decrease of the Reaction Delayed Hypersensitivity, elevation of cytochrome P450-mediated monooxigenase activities were observed, as comparison with Wistar rats.
