Biological therapy for the inner ear has the potential to revolutionise the treatment of sensorineural hearing loss, the most common form of deafness. Progress in the molecular understanding of hearing and hearing loss, combined with advances in the fields of both gene and cellular therapy for the inner ear, is providing a robust foundation from which clinical translation is plausible. Potential areas of interest in gene therapy and its preclinical application to deafness are reviewed, and experimental progress that has occurred in cellular therapy for the inner ear is examined.

Background/objectives: This study aimed to develop a novel nanotechnological slow-release drug delivery platform based on hyaluronic acid Microsponge (MSP) for the subcutaneous administration of methotrexate (MTX) in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). RA is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by joint inflammation and damage, while MTX is a common disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD), the conventional use of which is limited by adverse effects and the lack of release control.
Methods: MSP were synthesized as freeze-dried powder to increase their stability and allow for a facile reconstitution prior to administration and precise MTX dosing.

The present study aimed to explore an ideal delivery system for triptolide (TPL) by utilizing the thin-film hydration method to prepare drug-loaded, folate-modified mixed pluronic micelles (FA-F-127/F-68-TPL). Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy showed that the drug-loaded micelles had a spherical shape with a small particle size, with an average of 30.7 nm.

Background: Bunge (CM) shows promising potential for managing rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and digestive disorders, attributed to its rich content of bioactive compounds such as polyphenols and flavonoids. Despite its common use in herbal tea, the specific mechanisms underlying CM's anti-inflammatory and joint-protective effects remain unclear, limiting its development as a functional food. This study investigated the effects of aqueous CM extract on RA in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rats and explored the underlying mechanisms.

Diabetic retinopathy, a major cause of vision loss, is characterized by neurovascular changes in the retina. The lack of effective treatments to preserve vision in diabetic patients remains a significant challenge. A previous study from our laboratory demonstrated that 12-week treatment with MDL 72527, a pharmacological inhibitor of spermine oxidase (SMOX, a critical regulator of polyamine metabolism), reduced neurodegeneration in diabetic mice.

Regulation (EU) 2016/429 introduces comprehensive guidelines for managing transmissible animal diseases, including zoonoses. The subsequent Commission Implementing Regulation 2018/1882 categorizes these diseases into five groups, each with specific responses, ranging from mandatory eradication to optional eradication or surveillance. Key regulatory priorities include enhanced animal traceability, biosecurity, wildlife pathogen control, sustainable farming practices, and minimizing the impact of diseases on public health, animal health, and the environment.
