Antitumor activity of a new highly active promising gestagen 17alpha-acetoxy-3beta-butanoyloxy-6-methyl-pregna-4,6-dien-20-one (butagest) was studied in mice with model cervical carcinoma (RShM-5). The reference drug was medroxyprogesteron acetate (MPA, Depo Provera) used in clinics. The new preparation introduced perorally in a dose of 1 mg per mice inhibited the model tumor growth by 73%, which was 18% (p < 0.01) more effective than the action of the reference drug MPA. The effect of the new gestagen was also studied in vitro with respect to human breast carcinoma of the MCF-7 line and human cervical carcinoma HeLa. The viability of the tumor cells was studied during a 6-day incubation with the drug at a concentration of 10(-7)-10(-5) M (MTT test). The reference compounds were progesterone and MPA. These drugs suppressed the growth of both MCF-7 and, in higher concentrations, of HeLa. Butagest inhibited the growth of HeLa in all concentrations. Thus, the new gestagen 17alpha-acetoxy-3beta-butanoyloxy-6-methyl-pregna-4,6-dien-20-one is capable of suppressing the viability of human breast carcinoma and human cervical carcinoma, being comparable or even more effective than the reference drugs.

Background: Oncolytic viruses (OVs) are increasingly recognized as promising tools for cancer therapy, as they selectively infect and destroy tumor cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed. Despite considerable progress, the limited therapeutic efficacy of OV-based virotherapy continues to be a significant challenge in cancer treatment.
Methods: The SMAC/DIABLO gene was inserted into the genome of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) to generate VSV-S.

To date, pagetoid spread-the proliferation of pagetoid cells in intraepidermal lesions, as observed in secondary extramammary Paget's disease-has not been reported in squamous epithelium derived from the extension of head and neck carcinomas. Herein, we report a case of pagetoid squamous cell proliferation associated with a primary intraosseous carcinoma (PIOC) arising in the periapical lesion of the maxilla, a finding not reported previously. A 60-year-old man presented with prostate adenocarcinoma and bilateral pubic bone, ilium bone, and sacral bone metastases.

Human papilloma virus-negative head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) frequently harbors 11q13 amplifications. Among the oncogenes at this locus, CCND1 and ANO1 are linked to poor prognosis; however, their individual roles in treatment resistance remain unclear. The impact of Cyclin D1 and Ano1 overexpression on survival was analyzed using the TCGA HNSCC dataset and a Charité cohort treated with cisplatin (CDDP)-based radiochemotherapy.

A cystic lateral neck mass in adults represents a major challenge, as it can be difficult to distinguish between benign and malignant lesions. The incidence of carcinoma in initially benign treated neck cysts is estimated to be as high as 24%. The objective of this study was to ascertain the malignancy rate of cystic cervical masses and to provide a differentiation of cervical metastases in comparison to benign cervical cysts, utilising current guidelines.

A 70-year-old woman with a 6-month history of poor hygiene presented with a right occipital mass, ulceration, and neck swelling. The right occipital region was infested with approximately 100 fly maggots, and the mass contained a foul-smelling abscess. Maggots were removed, and the mass was drained, irrigated, and dressed with padding.
