Background: The synchronous or metachronous development of multiple primary soft tissue sarcomas (STS) of different histopathology has been reported only in isolated case reports.

Methods: The records of patients who developed multiple primary STS and who were treated at a tertiary cancer center between 1982 and 2003 were reviewed.

Results: Nine patients with multiple primary STS were identified, representing 0.2% of all patients who were treated for STS. The median age of patients at the time of initial presentation with sarcoma was 60 years (range, 51-81 years). Most patients in this series (n = 7) had metachronous development of a second primary STS. The incidence of second primary sarcomas in patients who were diagnosed previously with STS (4.0 per 10,000 population per year) was significantly greater than the incidence of primary STS in the general population (3.2 per 100,000 population per year; P < 0.01).

Conclusions: Although it is an uncommon occurrence, patients who have a history of STS are at an increased risk for the development of a second primary STS.

Background: Lifetime treatment of aortic valve disease is a matter of increasing debate. Although the risks of a second aortic valve intervention are recognized, little attention has been given to the challenges of a third.

Objectives: This study delves into the clinical characteristics, indications, and outcomes of patients undergoing 3 aortic valve interventions.

Non-carbapenem-producing carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa in children: Risk factors, molecular epidemiology, and resistance mechanism.

J Infect Public Health

December 2024

Department of Nosocomial Infection Control, The Clinical Laboratory, Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, Children's Hospital of Fudan University, National Children's Medical Center, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Background: The investigation into risk factors, molecular epidemiology, and resistance mechanisms of carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA) in pediatric populations in China is currently inadequate.

Methods: To assess epidemiology, molecular characteristics, and resistance mechanisms, virulence-associated genes were analyzed, alongside multi locus sequence typing (MLST), PCR, and qRT-PCR.

Finding: Multivariate analysis identified prolonged hospitalization (OR: 1.

Circulating tumour cells (CTCs) can be detected in peripheral blood using their physical properties (increased size and less deformable than normal circulating blood cells) or using cell surface markers. The study of these CTCs should provide important insights into tumour biology, including mechanisms of drug resistance. We performed a pilot study (IRAS ID: 235459) to evaluate if CTCs could be isolated from peripheral blood samples collected from soft tissue sarcoma (STS) patients.

Background: The use of local consolidative therapy (LCT) in patients with oligometastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is rapidly evolving, with a preponderance of data supporting the benefits of such therapeutic approaches incorporating pulmonary resection for appropriately selected candidates. However, practices vary widely institutionally and regionally, and evidence-based guidelines are lacking.

Methods: The Society of Thoracic Surgeons assembled a panel of thoracic surgical oncologists to evaluate and synthesize the available evidence regarding the role of pulmonary resection as LCT.

Effects of selective taste steering of bread and soups on quality of life in adult cancer outpatients who experience chemotherapy-induced taste alterations.

Eur J Oncol Nurs

December 2024

Department of Gastro Enterology, Head of Nutrition Team, AZ Delta, Deltalaan 1, 8800, Roeselare, Belgium. Electronic address:

Purpose: To investigate the effectiveness of selective taste steering (STS) to hyper personalize bread and soup for adult cancer outpatients with chemotherapy-induced taste alterations.

Methods: This multicentre study included two groups of adult cancer outpatients with CiTA, all receiving dietary advice as standard care. In one group, STS was applied to bread and soups for three months.
