: Fluoxetine (FLX) is the inhibitor of serotonin reuptake most prescribed in pregnant women with depression. This study evaluates the influence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on the enantioselective pharmacokinetics and transplacental distribution of FLX and its metabolite norfluoxetine (norFLX). : Ten pregnant women diagnosed with GDM (GDM group) were investigated in the third trimester of gestation after they achieved good glycemic control.

The World Health Organization estimates that approximately 285 million people suffer from visual impairments, around 5% of which are caused by corneal pathologies. Currently, the most common clinical treatment consists of a corneal transplant (keratoplasty) from a human donor. However, worldwide demand for donor corneas amply exceeds the available supply.

Upon exposure to inflammatory stimuli including TNF-α, endothelial cells are activated leading to the adhesion of monocytes to their surface. These events are involved in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis. Since TNF-α activates the NF-κB pathway, which contributes to atherosclerosis, targeting this signaling pathway may help prevent the risk of developing the disease.

Maternal obesity is increasingly recognized as a risk factor for adverse fetal outcomes, primarily through its association with heightened oxidative stress. This study aimed to evaluate oxidative stress markers in umbilical cord blood of neonates born to obese mothers. Sixty-three pregnant women, who were of normal weight at the start of pregnancy but classified as obese at term, were included.

The liver segmentation method proposed by Couinaud is widely accepted by surgeons because of its convenience and practicality. However, this conventional eight-segment classification does not reflect realistic details of the liver and thus requires further adjustments to promote improvements in surgical strategies.
