Clear cell adenocarcinoma in a urethral diverticulum in the female is a very rare and unusual tumor. We recently treated two patients with this tumor. Their presentation, histologic evaluation, and management are reviewed in light of the limited experience in the literature.

Immunomodulatory effect of efferocytosis at the maternal-fetal interface.

Cell Commun Signal

Efferocytosis is a mechanism by which phagocytes efficiently clear apoptotic cells, averting their secondary necrosis and the subsequent release of potentially immunogenic or cytotoxic substances that can trigger strong immune and inflammatory responses. During efferocytosis, the metabolic pathways of phagocytes are transformed, which, along with the catabolism of apoptotic cargo, can affect their function and inflammatory state. Extensive apoptosis occurs during placental development, and some studies reported the immunomodulatory effects of efferocytosis at the maternal-fetal interface.

The cryptic lncRNA-encoded microprotein TPM3P9 drives oncogenic RNA splicing and tumorigenesis.

Signal Transduct Target Ther

January 2025

MOE Key Laboratory of Tumor Molecular Biology and State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Molecules and Druggability Assessment, Institute of Life and Health Engineering, College of Life Science and Technology, Jinan University, Guangzhou, 510632, China.

Emerging evidence demonstrates that cryptic translation from RNAs previously annotated as noncoding might generate microproteins with oncogenic functions. However, the importance and underlying mechanisms of these microproteins in alternative splicing-driven tumor progression have rarely been studied. Here, we show that the novel protein TPM3P9, encoded by the lncRNA tropomyosin 3 pseudogene 9, exhibits oncogenic activity in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) by enhancing oncogenic RNA splicing.

DOGMA-seq and multimodal, single-cell analysis in acute myeloid leukemia.

Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, NY, United States; The HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Institute for Computational Biomedicine, Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, NY, United States. Electronic address:

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a complex cancer, yet advances in recent years from integrated genomics methods have helped improve diagnosis, treatment, and means of patient stratification. A recent example of a powerful, multimodal method is DOGMA-seq, which can measure chromatin accessibility, gene expression, and cell-surface protein levels from the same individual cell simultaneously. Previous bimodal single-cell techniques, such as CITE-seq (Cellular indexing of transcriptomes and epitopes), have only permitted the transcriptome and cell-surface protein expression measurement.

Electronic address:

Neurological disorders are the leading cause of disability worldwide, with Parkinson's disease (PD) emerging as a rapidly growing neurological condition on a global scale. Although treatments exist to alleviate symptoms and maintain patients' quality of life, PD remains incurable. According to some recent studies, natural killer (NK) cells may play a role in clearing alpha-synuclein aggregates, which are the main component of Lewy bodies that cause neuronal degeneration in Parkinson's disease.

Callistephus chinensis Nees is an herbaceous plant in the Asteraceae family that has various traditional effects, especially in preventing liver disease. Callistephus A (CA) is a sesquiterpene compound with a rare 6/7 ring skeleton, which has been isolated only from the Callistephus chinensis Nees, but whether CA protects the liver is unknown. Immunological liver injury (ILI) is a common liver disease mediated by the immune system.
