The formation of new blood vessels is the initial step in progressive tumour development and metastasis. The first stage in tumour angiogenesis is the activation of endothelial cells. Copper ions stimulate proliferation and migration of endothelial cells. It has been shown that serum copper concentration increases as the cancer disease progresses and correlates with tumour incidence and burden. Copper ions also activate several proangiogenic factors, e.g., vascular endothelial growth factor, basic fibroblast growth factor, tumour necrosis factor alpha and interleukin 1. This review concerns a brief introduction into the basics of tumour blood vessel development as well as the regulatory mechanisms of this process. The role of copper ions in tumour angiogenesis is discussed. The new antiangiogenic therapies based on a reduction of copper levels in tumour microenvironment are reviewed.

Nine metal complexes formed by three symmetric β-diketonates (, acetylacetonate (), 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-acetylacetonate (), and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-dionate ()) and three metal ions (with three different coordination geometries, , Be - tetrahedral, Cu - square planar, and Pb - "swing" square pyramidal) were investigated. The study combines structural analyses, vibrational spectroscopic techniques, and quantum chemical calculations with the aim of bridging crystal structure, electronic structure, molecular topology, and far-infrared (FIR) spectroscopic characteristics. The effect of intramolecular interactions on the structural, electronic, and spectroscopic features is the center of this study.

The emergence of cuproptosis, a novel form of regulated cell death, is induced by an excess of copper ions and has been associated with the progression of multiple diseases, including liver injury, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegenerative disorders. However, there are currently no inhibitors available for targeting specific cuproptosis-related pathways in therapy. Here, the compound merestinib (MTB) has been identified as a strong inhibitor of cuproptosis through screening of a kinase inhibitor library.

The local structure plays a crucial role in oxygen redox reactions, which boosts the capacity of layered oxide cathodes for sodium-ion batteries. While studies on local structural ordering have primarily focused on the intra-layer ordering, there has been limited research on the inter-layer stacking for the layered cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries. Wet chemical sensors autonomously sample and analyze water using chemical assays. Their internal fluidics are not susceptible to biofouling (the undesirable accumulation of microorganisms, algae, and animals in natural waters) due to the harsh chemical environment and dark conditions; however, the sample intake and filter are potentially susceptible. This paper describes the use of copper intake filters, incorporated to prevent fouling, on two different wet chemical nitrate sensors that each use different variants of the Griess assay (in particular, different nitrate reduction steps) to quantify nitrate concentrations.

Background: In cuproptosis, excess copper ions induce cell death via fatty acylation in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. However, the effects of cuproptosis-TCA-related long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) on the clinical prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and the associated tumor microenvironment remain unclear.
