Alice Wright, who died in March 2000 at age 105 years, was one of Canadian nursing's pioneers in labor relations for nurses. The Registrar and Executive Director of the Registered Nurses Association of B.C. from 1943 to 1960, she was named an Honorary Member of the Canadian Nurses Association in 1962, just one of the honors for her pioneering labor relations work, her contributions to improvements in standards of nursing education, and her many professional contributions nationally and internationally.

Defect Conformal Field Theory from Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev Interactions.

Phys Rev Lett

December 2024

Tulane University, Department of Physics and Engineering Physics, New Orleans, Louisiana 70118, USA.

The coupling between defects and extended critical degrees of freedom gives rise to the intriguing theory known as defect conformal field theory (CFT). In this work, we introduce a novel family of boundary and interface CFTs by coupling N Majorana chains with SYK_{q} interactions at the defect. Our analysis reveals that the interaction with q=2 constitutes a new marginal defect.

Materials that are constantly driven out of thermodynamic equilibrium, such as active and living systems, typically violate the Einstein relation. This may arise from active contributions to particle fluctuations which are unrelated to the dissipative resistance of the surrounding medium. We show that in these cases the widely used relation between informatic entropy production and heat dissipation does not hold.

Generic Elasticity of Thermal, Underconstrained Systems.

Phys Rev Lett

December 2024

CPT, CNRS, Aix Marseille Univ, Université de Toulon, (UMR 7332), Turing Center for Living Systems, Marseille, France.

Athermal (i.e., zero-temperature) underconstrained systems are typically floppy, but they can be rigidified by the application of external strain, which is theoretically well understood.

Background: Since the COVID-19 pandemic, health care workers (HCWs) faced an enormous physical and mental burden, sometimes altering their quality of life due mainly to persistent challenges stemming from their frontline position.

Aims: Todetermine the prevalence of post-COVID-19 syndrome, and its impact on the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) among HCWs.

Methods: This is an exhaustive cross-sectional study with analytical scope, conducted among all HCWs of the University Hospital Sahloul of Sousse, Tunisia, who have contracted COVID-19 between September 2020 and 30 March 2021 (N=529 cases).

This work researched the influence and mechanism of CD155 on hepatocellular carcinoma advancement. CD155 expression and its effect on survival of hepatocellular carcinoma patients were analyzed based on the GEPIA2 database. String software predicted the interacting between CD155 and CD96, which was further verified by co-immunoprecipitation experiment.
