The results of a 27-year follow-up of the size of the taiga tick in a subarea of the south taiga of the Middle Urals are summarized. The author has established the period of its activity, the change in the parameter of the activity by years, and the rise in the size of the vector in the past decade.

Forward modelling of white spruce radial growth at trailing edge demonstrates high plasticity.

Climate conditions throughout the 21st century across much of western Canada's boreal forest have been drier than normal leading to significant impacts on forest productivity and tree growth. Determining the limiting factors of radial growth in common boreal tree species under current and future conditions is crucial to reconcile how they will continue to respond to climate change. In this study, we used a network of 26 white spruce tree-ring chronologies south of its natural range as an artificially constructed trailing edge to assess climate-growth relationships and limiting factors by identifying seasonal climate relationships and using the Vaganov-Shashkin Lite (VS-Lite) model, respectively.

Accurately mapping aboveground biomass (AGB) in China's boreal forests is crucial for assessing global carbon stock and formulating forest management strategies but remains challenging as the environmental heterogeneity complicates AGB estimation. Here, we investigated the relative gains of integrating Sentinel-2 and environmental data, as well as synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images to map AGB in China's boreal forests. We used two machine learning algorithms, random forest and gradient boosting regression (GBR), and four dataset combinations to develop the AGB models, then evaluated the AGB map by carrying on uncertainty analysis and comparing it with existing AGB products.

In forests, a significant proportion of the carbon fixed by trees during photosynthesis is transported belowground along the conducting phloem, so variations in phloem anatomy can lead to variations in transport capacity. Phloem conductance at tree level (Ktree) is also affected by tree height. Both the phloem anatomy and the tree size change during ontogeny, and also differ under different environmental conditions.

Introduction: Tick-borne infections are of great importance for many regions of Russia, including Eastern Siberia. This unfavorable epidemiological situation can be characterized not only by the circulation of well-known tick-borne infections, but also by the identification of new pathogens, the role of which remains little or generally unexplored. Multicomponent flavi-like viruses can cause infectious diseases in humans and pose a threat to public health.

Fluvial carbon dioxide emissions peak at the permafrost thawing front in the Western Siberia Lowland.

Sci Total Environ

In order to foresee the impact of permafrost thaw on CO emissions by high-latitude rivers, in-situ measurements across a permafrost and climate/vegetation gradient, coupled with assessment of possible physico-chemical and landscape controlling factors are necessary. Here we chose 34 catchments of variable stream order (1 to 9) and watershed size (1 to >10 km) located across a permafrost and biome gradient in the Western Siberian Lowland (WSL), from the permafrost-free southern taiga to the continuous permafrost zone of tundra. Across the south-north transect, maximal CO emissions (2.
