Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune epithelitis characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of exocrine glands and epithelia in multiple sites. One third of the patients present with peripheral nervous system involvement. We describe the case of a woman aged 62 affected by a peroneal nerve mononeuropathy with painful disturbances secondary to a prevalent involvement of small fibers as demonstrated by electrophysiological investigations and skin biopsy. Asymmetric peripheral nerve involvement is not uncommon in SS, though, to our knowledge, it has never been reported of a mononeuropathy involving primarily small fibers.

The adoption of pultruded glass fibre-reinforced polymer (pGFRP) composites as a substitute for traditional wooden cross-arms in high transmission towers represents a relatively novel approach. These materials were selected for their high strength-to-weight ratio and lightweight properties. Despite various studies focusing on structures improvement, there still have a significant gap in understanding the deformation characteristics of full-scale cross-arms under actual operational loads.

Background: Scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) is a kind of scanning probe technology that enables the obtainment of surface morphology and electrochemical information by recording changes in Faraday current triggered by the movement of probe.
Results: In this work, flexible disk ultramicroelectrode (UME) with highly repeatable geometry are fabricated through a simple and universal strategy that involves vacuum pulling the glass capillaries inserted with platinum wire (gold wire, carbon fiber, etc.), followed by a rapidly heated sealing and polishing process.

Natural extracellular matrices (ECM) provide a more accurate simulation of the cellular growth environment, making them excellent substrate materials for in vitro cell culture. The porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS) is one of the most widely used natural ECM that display superior bioactivity. However, decellularization operations often result in fiber breakage and failure to recover mechanical strength in the SIS.
