Reversed-phase liquid chromatography was used to determine lipophilic antioxidants in plants using two monomeric C18 columns operated at 30 degrees C and 4 degrees C, with a column-switching technique and acetonitrile-methanol gradient elution. The chromatograms were extracted at different wavelengths using a UV diode array detector (DAD). A wide range of plant antioxidants, including nine carotenoids (neoxanthin, violaxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, beta-cryptoxanthin, lycopene, canthaxanthin, alpha-carotene and beta-carotene) together with all-trans-retinol, capsaicin, dihydrocapsaicin, chlorophyll a, and chlorophyll b can be separated within 50 min. Fluorometric detection was applied to quantify trace amounts of six vitamin E analogues (alpha-, delta- and gamma-tocopherols and tocotrienols). The detection limits were 0.2-0.4 microg/g for various xanthophylls and 0.04-0.10 microg/g for vitamin E analogues.

Normal-phase (NP) liquid chromatography is one of the most effective methods for separating isomers with sensitive structural features, including xanthophyll isomers. In this work, reverse-phase (RP) and NP liquid chromatography (LC), with silica gel and diol phase, respectively, were evaluated for the separation of xanthophyll isomers. The results showed that RP LC with monomeric C18 phase not only poorly separate all xanthophyll isomers in egg yolk but also requires additional sample preparation to eliminate triacylglycerols in egg yolk.

In this study, we isolated a new isoflavanostilbene maackiapicevestitol () as a mixture of two stable conformers and as well as five previously known dimeric and monomeric stilbens: piceatannol (), maackin (), scirpusin A (), maackiasine (), and maackolin () from heartwood, using column chromatography on polyamide, silicagel, and C-18. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by NMR, HR-MS, and CD techniques. Maksar obtained from heartwood and polyphenolics - possessed moderate anti-HSV-1 activity in cytopathic effect (CPE) inhibition and RT-PCR assays.

The goal of this study is to examine bisphenol AF (BPAF)-induced multinucleation (MNC) in comparison with dibutyl phthalate (DBP), known to induce MNC in mouse gonocytes in vivo. We performed image-based single-cell high content analysis (HCA) in the mouse spermatogonia C18-4 cells treated with various concentrations of BPAF and DBP. BPAF as low as 5 µM was cytotoxic and resulted in 40% cell death of the C18-4 cells after 72 h.
