A new procedure for electroplating wastewater treatment using waste by-product (ferrous-sulfate) and waste (wood fly ash) is presented. Ferrous-sulfate was employed for Cr(VI) reduction whereas neutralization and heavy metal removal from electroplating wastewaters was performed using wood fly ash. Heavy metal removal efficiency varied from 97.5% for Cu to 99.973% for Zn. Satisfying results can be achieved already at the pH 8. The method is suitable for the purposes of wastewater treatment and disposal in compliance with environmental laws. Furthermore, it is technically simple, cost-efficient and requires less space compared to the classical methodology. According to the composition of its water extractable fraction remaining waste ash could be safely deposited on domestic waste repositories.

The formation of an aluminosilicate gel structure made of alkali-activated materials (AAMs) was conducted through an alkali-activation reaction of the solid precursors (fly ash, metakaolin, and wood ash). Fly and wood ash are by-products of the burning process of coal and wood, respectively. Alkali-activated materials of aluminosilicate origin, made from the different ashes, fly and wood, are very attractive research targets and can be applied in various technological fields due to their thermal stability, resistance to thermal shock, high porosity, high sustainability, and finally, low energy loss during production.

Construction materials are significantly exposed to ecological hazards due to the presence of hazardous chemical constituents found in industrial and agricultural solid wastes. This study aims to investigate the use of sawdust particles (SDPs) and sawdust wastewater (SDW) in alkali-activated composites (AACs) made from a mixture of different silicon-aluminum-based solid wastes (slag powder-SP, red mud-RM, fly ash-FA, and carbide slag-CS).
