Macro-FSH is a rare cause of inappropriately high FSH concentrations.

Endocrinol Diabetes Metab Case Rep

Endocrinology Unit, Fondazione IRCCS Ca' Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Milan, Italy.

Summary: Assessment of hormone concentrations can be subjected to laboratory pitfalls. Macro-hormones are hormone-autoantibody complexes which are cleared slowly from circulation and cause a false elevation in hormones' concentrations. Macro-prolactin and macro-thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) are most frequently encountered while macro-follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) has been rarely reported.

It is thought that sex hormones are playing an actual role in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The purpose of this study was to determine the differences of some hematological, hormonal and immunological parameters between the postmenopausal women with rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. This study contained 75 postmenopausal women (52-65 years old).

Article Synopsis
  • - A patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) exhibited deficiencies in thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), along with MRI evidence of slight pituitary gland atrophy.
  • - Immunofluorescence analysis indicated that the patient's immune system produced antibodies that targeted CGA-positive cells in the pituitary, suggesting a link between SLE and autoimmunity against these hormone-producing cells.
  • - This case introduces the concept of acquired hypopituitarism, raising questions about the prevalence of TSH, LH, and FSH deficiencies in SLE and similar autoimmune disorders that warrant further investigation.

The aim of the study was to investigate the relation between thyroid autoimmunity (TAI), reflected as the presence of thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb), and parameters of ovarian reserve in women with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). We studied 83 euthyroid women with T1DM (age - 26 ± 5 years, BMI - 24 ± 3 kg/m) - 12 with PCOS and positive TPOAb (PCOS + TPOAb), 29 with PCOS with negative TPOAb (PCOS + noTPOAb), 18 without PCOS with positive TPOAb (noPCOS + TPOAb), 24 without PCOS with negative TPOAb (noPCOS + noTPOAb). Serum concentrations of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), sex hormones, TSH, thyroid hormones and TPOAb were assessed.

Premature Ovarian Insufficiency After Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19): Autoimmune Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and FSH Receptor Blockade.

Obstet Gynecol

Background: Since the onset of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, a variety of long-COVID-19 symptoms and autoimmune complications have been recognized.

Cases: We report three cases of autoimmune premature poor ovarian response in patients aged 30-37 years after mild to asymptomatic COVID-19 before vaccination, with nucleotide antibody confirmation. Two patients failed to respond to maximum-dose gonadotropins for more than 4 weeks, despite a recent history of response before having COVID-19.
