2-Mercaptobenzothiazole, which is mainly used in the rubber industry as a vulcanization accelerator, is very toxic and is considered to be recalcitrant. We show here for the first time that it can be biotransformed and partially mineralized by a pure-culture bacterial strain of Rhodococcus rhodochrous. Three metabolites, among four detected, were identified.

Copper(II) oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) are used in different industries and agriculture, thus leading to their release to the environment, which raises concerns about their ecotoxicity and biosafety. The main toxicity mechanism of nanometals is oxidative stress as a result of the formation of reactive oxygen species caused by metal ions released from nanoparticles. Bacterial biofilms are more resistant to physical and chemical factors than are planktonic cells due to the extracellular polymeric matrix (EPM), which performs a protective function.

Aims: To isolate polyethylene terephthalate (PET)-degrading bacteria and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of PET biodegradation through biochemical and genome analysis.
Methods And Results: Rhodococcus rhodochrous IITR131 was found to degrade PET. Strain IITR131 genome revealed metabolic versatility of the bacterium and had the ability to form biofilm on PET sheet, resulting in the cracks, abrasions, and degradation.

Petroleum-contaminated soil represents a significant environmental and public health challenge on a global scale. Microbial bioremediation has shown potential, yet the role of enzymes in enhancing petroleum degradation remains underexplored. In this study, the synergistic effects of Rhodococcus rhodochrous (R.

A genome of IEGM 1362 was sequenced and annotated. This strain can transform monoterpene alcohol (-)-isopulegol with the formation of two novel pharmacologically promising metabolites. Nine genes encoding cytochrome P450, presumably involved in (-)-isopulegol transformation, were found in the genome of IEGM 1362.

Triclocarban (TCC) and its metabolite, 3,4-dichloroaniline (DCA), are classified as emerging organic contaminants (EOCs). Significant concerns arise from water and soil contamination with TCC and its metabolites. These concerns are especially pronounced at high concentrations of up to approximately 20 mg/kg dry weight, as observed in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs).
