1. This research was developed to evaluate the actions of the aqueous extracts of leaves of Lippia alba, Melissa officinalis and Cymbopogon citratus upon contractile force (CF) and cardiac rate (CR). 2. For the experiments in isolated heart, 21 male adult rats were used. The hearts were perfused according to Langendorff's method. The records of CF and CR were obtained in control and after application of the extracts. The extracts were utilized in doses: 0.038, 0.38, 3.8 and 38 mg. Results obtained were compared by statistic analyses. 3. The aqueous extracts provoked significant CR reduction and did not alter the CF. The negative CR effect may have occurred by cardiac muscarinics receptors stimulation.

Phytochemical investigation of the n-hexane-soluble fraction of the aqueous ethanol extract of the aerial parts of Hypericum helianthemoides (Spach) Boiss. (Hypericaceae), furnished four undescribed polycylic polyprenylated benzoylphloroglucinols (PPBPs) 1-4, together with phytyl formate (5) and thirteen previously reported prenylated phloroglucinol derivatives, including yezo'otogirin C (6), hyperibrins A (7) and F (8), hyperibones G (9), J (10), La (11a)/Lb (11b), 7-epi-clusianone a (12a)/7-epi-clusianone b (12b), and hypermongones A (13), C (14), E (15), G (16), H (17), and sampsonione L (18). The structures of 1-4 were established by extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectral analysis as well as HREI-MS.

A luminescence-based method was developed to detect gentamicin using silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) associated with nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs). When gentamicin sulfate interacts with the AgNPs/N-GQDs system, the characteristic blue fluorescence of N-GQDs, which had been previously turned off by AgNPs, is restored. Under specific conditions (such as the amount of synthesis dispersion and pH), this AgNPs/N-GQDs probe enabled quantification of gentamicin ranging from 3.

In environmental management area, quality of water is a major growing concern with the emerging contaminants such as pesticides and pharmaceuticals likely to be present at low concentrations in water bodies, thereby potentially harming the ecosystem and human health. Diclofenac (DCF), a commonly used drug, has been found in wastewater, surface water, and drinking water sources, whose elimination can be a challenge issue. This study investigates the elimination of DCF by the photochemical method from aqueous media using short-wavelength radiation and hydrogen peroxide.

The use of natural organic extracts in nanoparticle synthesis can reduce environmental impacts and reagent costs. With that purpose in mind, a novel biosynthesis procedure for the formation of magnetic iron-oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) using extract in an aqueous medium has been systematically carried out. First, the biosynthesis was optimized for various extract concentrations, prepared by decoction and infusion methods, and yielded IONPs with sizes from 4 to 9 nm.
