The sizes of air bubbles and castor oil drops were studied by image analysis as a function of the concentration of soluble protein (bovine serum albumin [BSA] and lipase, as model proteins) in a three-phase system using a simulated fermentation medium (aqueous salt solution, castor oil, and air). Small amounts of proteins (<0.02 g/L) caused an important decrease in oil drops and bubbles sizes, together with a pronounced decrease in surface tension. The extent and profiles of this decrease seem to be determined by the conformation of the protein at the interface. The kLa value increased considerably for increasing concentration (up to 0.02 g/L) of the two proteins but was very different (2-fold higher for the lipase) at the highest concentrations tested (0.5 g/L), a phenomenon that can be caused by the extent to which bubbles are trapped within oil drops.

Platform chemicals from renewable resources with broad applications are highly desirable, particularly for replacing fossil-based monomers. Bifunctional aliphatic ester-aldehydes, accessible via regioselective hydroformylation of unsaturated oleochemicals, can be converted into linear ω-amino/ω-hydroxy esters and dicarboxylic acids-key building blocks for biobased aliphatic polycondensates. However, their success hinges on efficient, economically viable production, with catalyst recycling being critical.

Different portions of this plant have been used as sedatives and anti-inflammatory medications, as well as to treat coughs, fevers, asthma, diarrhea, ulcers, and diabetes. There is a scientific potential for the methanolic seed extract to contain bioactive compounds, similar to those found in other parts of the plant.

This study aims to develop castable polyurethane suitable for applications on wet substrates or underwater construction. Polyurethanes were synthesized using various polyols with similar hydroxyl values, including poly(tetrahydrofuran) polyol, polyester polyol, castor oil-modified polyol, soybean oil-modified polyol, and cashew nut shell oil-modified polyol. The corresponding polyurethane curing products were evaluated for their underwater curing characteristics by volume expansion ratios and adhesion strength on dry and wet substrates, combined with analyses of reaction exothermic behavior, wetting properties on dry and wet substrates, interfacial tension, and microstructure characterization from the perspectives of reaction activity and water solubility.

In this study, demethylated-acylated enzymatic hydrolysis lignin (DAEHL) with excellent solubility in castor oil and antioxidant activities were prepared via the tandem modification strategy. First, iodocyclohexane simultaneously achieved β-O-4 breakage and hydrogenation, which enhanced the antioxidant activity of lignin. Furthermore, the acylation reaction by palmitoyl chloride increased the alkyl content in the lignin, which can improve the solubility of lignin in castor oil.

Flurbiprofen (FBP) is poorly water-soluble BCS class II drug with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, used to treat arthritis and degenerative joint diseases. This study was aimed to develop SNEDDS loaded with FBP. Six SNEDDS using two oils olive oil (F, F, F) and castor oil (F, F, F) with three different Smix ratios consisting of Tween 20 and PEG 400 (1:1, 1:2, 2:1) were prepared and characterized.
