An extensive collection of 125 rat hybridomas secreting monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) to ectromelia virus (EV) polypeptide (Poxviridae family, Orhtopoxvirus genus) was set up. A significant portion of Mabs (37 types) recognized epitopes of the 14 kDa polypeptide as well as the 37 and 35 kDa polypeptides. However, a majority of Mabs interacted with conformation-dependent epitopes, which were destroyed in immunoprecipitation. One hundred and thirteen of Mabs cross-interacted with antigenic determinants of vaccinia viruses (VV), cowpox virus (CPV) and smallpox virus (SPV); only 12 of them were found to be specific to EV. The Mabs antigenic activity was tested for 46 types of cross-reactivity Mabs in VV neutralization on Vero cells. Only the 112H12, 113D5, 113F8, 122H9 and 125G9 Mabs, which were specific to the kDa 14 polypeptide (gene A30L EV), had the neutralizing activity. The 122H9 and 125G9 Mabs were able to neutralize SPV. Therefore, it can be assumed that the 14 kDa polypeptide carries, on its surface, cross-reactivity neutralizing epitopes typical of orthopoxviruses.

Wound healing incurs various challenges, making it an important topic in medicine. Short-chain peptides from fish protein hydrolysates possess wound healing properties that may represent a solution. In this study, perch hydrolysates were produced from perch side steams using a designed commercial complex enzyme via a proprietary pressure extraction technique.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are constituent molecules of the innate defense system and are naturally produced by all organisms. AMPs are characterized by a relatively low molecular weight (less than 10 kDa) and a variable number of cysteine residues that form disulfide bonds and contribute to the stabilization of the tertiary structure. In addition, there is a wide repertoire of antimicrobial agents against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa that can provide a large number of prototype peptides for study and biochemical manipulation.

The detection of low-molecular-weight biomarkers is essential for diagnosing and managing various diseases, including neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease. A biomarker's low molecular weight is a challenge for label-free optical modalities, as the phase change they detect is directly proportional to the mass bound on the sensor's surface. To address this challenge, we used a resonant Young's slit interferometer geometry and implemented several innovations, such as phase noise matching and optimisation of the fringe spacing, to maximise the signal-to-noise ratio.

Background: Maintenance immunosuppression is required for suppression of alloimmunity or allograft rejection. However, continuous use of immunosuppressants may lead to various side effects, necessitating the use of alternative immunosuppressive drugs. The early secreted antigenic target of 6 kDa (ESAT-6) is a virulence factor and immunoregulatory protein of mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), which alters host immunity through dually regulating development or activation of various immune cells.

The ethanol-induced BALB/c mice and human gastric epithelial cell (Ges-1 cell) models were used to investigate the Sargassum siliquastrum fucoidan (SFuc) gastroprotective capability. The injury score and histopathological sections of the stomach were used to evaluate the gastroprotective capability. The western blotting and RT-PCR methods determined the signaling mechanism of mice's gastric injury.
