Contact gunshot wounds are usually characterized by a muzzle imprint, a powder cavity ("pocket"), the presence of carboxyhemoglobin and often also stellate tears of the skin radiating from the bullet entrance hole. In shots to the cerebral cranium an additional sign may be observed around the bone defect: the periosteum is detached and reflected with soot on the underside. The frequency and possible causes of these periosteal findings are discussed on the basis of 68 contact gunshot wounds from forensic autopsy material and experimental shots fired against the frontal bone of a slaughtered calf.

Objective: The spread of African swine fever in Germany has brought wild boar trapping back into focus as a method for animal disease control. While data on free-bullet slaughter in domestic mammals is available, data on the gun shot and caliber selection for use in wild boar trapping is largely lacking.
Material And Methods: The heads of 138 wild boars captured in 10 corral-style traps and shot with a bullet (caliber .

Elite tennis players demonstrate an outstanding ability to predict the timing of their shots during matches, especially during prolonged rallies. Exploring the characteristics of this temporal perception advantage and its cognitive processing mechanisms may help explain the influence of sports experience on temporal perception abilities. We recruited 28 tennis athletes and 28 controls with no sports experience and measured their behavioral performance and brain neural activity characteristics using a time-to-contact paradigm under different temporal context conditions.

Purpose: To prospectively accelerate whole-brain CEST acquisition by joint k-space and image-space parallel imaging (KIPI) with a proposed golden-angle view ordering technique (GAVOT) in Cartesian coordinates.
Theory And Methods: The T-decay effect will vary across frames with variable acceleration factors (AF) in the prospective acquisition using sequences with long echo trains. The GAVOT method uses a subset strategy to eliminate the T-decay inconsistency, where all frames use a subset of shots from the calibration frame to form their k-space view ordering.

Background: Stereotactic radiosurgery is a favorable alternative to surgery for intracranial cerebral metastases. Fourth ventricle (V4) metastases are challenging because of the location and surrounding structures, with a high risk for obstructive hydrocephalus and brainstem compression. Here, the authors evaluate the effectiveness in terms of safety, tumor control rates, and permanent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion of primary Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) in treating V4 metastases.
