Published: October 2004

A new and straightforward methodology for the construction of complex nitrogen-containing polycycles has been developed. This methodology exploits easily prepared 1,2,4-triazines as substrates for a pericyclic reaction cascade, forming the polycycles in good to excellent yield in a single operation.

Serious attention was lacked for various pollutants formed in both gas and tar phase during pyrolysis recycling of waste wind turbine blades (WWTB), especially for components of carcinogenic bisphenol A (BPA) and potentially toxic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in tar. Pyrolysis temperature within 400-600 °C would significantly impact pollutant formations. Additionally, CO had a potential to mitigate pollutants emission as an economic alternative for N.

Nitrogen-containing heterocycles are present in most approved drugs, reflecting the significance of their synthetic strategies. By utilizing oxadiazolone as a nitrenoid (nitrene-like) precursor, we have developed a general strategy for the annulation with nucleophilic heterocycles to access various polycyclic aminoheterocycles. We have discovered that 2-pyrryl-substituted substrates undergo a rearrangement, which indicates a spirocyclization-migration pathway.

Nitrogen-containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (NPAHs) are important molecules for astrochemistry and prebiotic chemistry, as their occurrence spans from interstellar molecular clouds to planetary systems. Their formation has been previously explored in gas phase experiments, but the role of solid-state chemical reactions in their formation under cryogenic conditions remains elusive. Here, we explore the formation of NPAHs through vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) irradiation of pyridine:acetylene ices in amorphous and co-crystalline phases, with the aim to simulate conditions relevant to the interstellar medium and Titan's atmosphere.

Non-Radiative Deactivation in Isolated Quinoline.

The photophysics of the S (ππ*) state of the polycyclic aromatic nitrogen-containing hydrocarbon (PANH) quinoline is investigated in a free jet using a picosecond laser system. A [1 + 1] multiphoton ionization spectrum yields the S origin at around 32 200 cm and reveals several vibronic bands. In time-resolved experiments, quinoline is then excited between 312.

There are many different applications of heterocyclic molecules in the pharmaceutical and materials science fields, which make them an important family of compounds. Among these heterocyclic compounds, nitrogen-containing heterocyclic (N-heterocyclic) compounds have attracted a lot of interest among researchers due to their various applications across a wide variety of fields. Many studies have been performed over the past few years to study the synthesis of N-heterocycles under different reaction conditions, such as solvent-free, catalytic, reactants immobilized on a solid support, one-pot synthesis, and microwave irradiation.
