A Retrospective Study of Pediatric Allergic Contact Dermatitis from 2017-2022.

Dermatol Ther (Heidelb)

January 2025

Burkhart Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology, Cary, NC, USA.

Objectives: Allergic contact dermatitis occurs frequently in children. The proportion of children of color in the US is increasing, and racial and ethnic minority representation is important in pediatric allergic contact dermatitis research. The objectives of our study were to identify differences in age, sex, race and ethnicity among pediatric patch tests obtained from 2017 to 2022.

Interactions of human milk oligosaccharides with the immune system.

Front Immunol

January 2025

School of Biochemistry and Immunology, Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland.

Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are abundant, diverse and complex sugars present in human breast milk. HMOs are well-characterized barriers to microbial infection and by modulating the human microbiome they are also thought to be nutritionally beneficial to the infant. The structural variety of over 200 HMOs, including neutral, fucosylated and sialylated forms, allows them to interact with the immune system in various ways.

The role of BATF in immune cell differentiation and autoimmune diseases.

Biomark Res

January 2025

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Institute of Medical Immunology, Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang, China.

As a member of the Activator Protein-1 (AP-1) transcription factor family, the Basic Leucine Zipper Transcription Factor (BATF) mediates multiple biological functions of immune cells through its involvement in protein interactions and binding to DNA. Recent studies have demonstrated that BATF not only plays pivotal roles in innate and adaptive immune responses but also acts as a crucial factor in the differentiation and function of various immune cells. Lines of evidence indicate that BATF is associated with the onset and progression of allergic diseases, graft-versus-host disease, tumors, and autoimmune diseases.

Anti-IL-5 treatment, but not neutrophil interference, attenuates inflammation in a mixed granulocytic asthma mouse model, elicited by air pollution.

Department of Respiratory Medicine, Laboratory for Translational Research in Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases, Medical Research Building (MRB) II, Ghent University Hospital, 2 Floor, Corneel Heymanslaan 10, 9000, Ghent, Belgium.

Introduction: Diesel exhaust particles (DEP) have been proven to aggravate asthma pathogenesis. We previously demonstrated that concurrent exposure to house dust mite (HDM) and DEP in mice increases both eosinophils and neutrophils in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and also results in higher levels of neutrophil-recruiting chemokines and neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation compared to sole HDM, sole DEP or saline exposure. We aimed to evaluate whether treatment with anti-IL-5 can alleviate the asthmatic features in this mixed granulocytic asthma model.

Post-COVID-19 sequelae are associated with sustained SARS-CoV-2-specific CD4 immune responses.

Int Immunopharmacol

January 2025

Department of Health Sciences, Interdisciplinary Research Center of Autoimmune Diseases-IRCAD, University of Eastern Piedmont 28100 Novara, Italy; Center for Translational Research on Autoimmune and Allergic Diseases, University of Eastern Piedmont 28100 Novara, Italy. Electronic address:

Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has led to widespread post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), affecting multiple body systems. Despite its prevalence, PASC's pathogenesis remains unclear, with hypotheses suggesting viral persistence, immune activation, and autoimmune responses among the pathogenetic mechanism. This study aimed to evaluate T cell memory response in PASC patients, one year post-hospital discharge and correlate it with clinical parameters to identify a potential PASC-associated fingerprint.
