In esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, genetic activation of NRF2 increases resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which results in a significantly worse prognosis for patients. Therefore NRF2-activated cancers create an urgent clinical need to identify new therapeutic options. In this context, we previously identified the geldanamycin family of HSP90 inhibitors, which includes 17DMAG, to be synthetic lethal with NRF2 activity.

Background: Intravascular hemolysis is a known complication of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Characterized by elevated plasma-free hemoglobin (PFH), intravascular hemolysis is associated with cytotoxic effects leading to renal replacement therapy (RRT), longer ECMO runs, and mortality. Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) in tandem with ECMO was described as a therapy for various pathologic conditions, but there are no Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) guidelines for the treatment of ECMO-induced hemolysis.

Objective: Epilepsy surgery in the operculoinsular cortex is challenging due to the difficult delineation of the epileptogenic zone and the high risk of postoperative deficits.
Methods: Pre- and postsurgical data from 30 pediatric patients who underwent operculoinsular cortex surgery at the Motol Epilepsy Center Prague from 2010 to 2022 were analyzed.
Results: Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD; n = 15, 50%) was the predominant cause of epilepsy, followed by epilepsy-associated tumors (n = 5, 17%) and tuberous sclerosis complex (n = 2, 7%).

Background: As bronchiectasis progresses, increasing degrees of airflow limitation can occur.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate whether concomitant airflow limitation was associated with poor prognosis in patients with bronchiectasis and to identify the characteristics of patients with airflow limitation in bronchiectasis.
Design: A prospective longitudinal study was conducted to determine the characteristics and prognosis of bronchiectasis patients with airflow limitation.
