To intubate or not? Balancing anesthesia in rodent fMRI: strategies to mitigate confounding effects.

More than a decade ago, the introduction of intubation and mechanical ventilation for performing blood oxygen level-dependent functional MRI studies in the rodent brain allowed an improved control over the physiological conditions during scanning sessions. An accurate understanding of respiratory parameters permits to respect the 3Rs in animal research, improves significantly the fMRI outcome, and promises improved translational studies. Developments also prompted a better comprehension on anesthetics and their impact on rodent brain physiology and function, bringing new insights on the buildup of carbon dioxide, interhemispheric connectivity, or arousal, which understanding are paramount for maturing better fMRI protocols in awake rodents.

The ability to estimate numerical magnitude is essential for decision-making and is thought to underlie arithmetic skills. In humans, neural populations in the frontoparietal regions are tuned to represent numerosity. However, it remains unclear whether their response properties are fixed to a specific numerosity (i.

Background And Objective: Neurosurgical navigation is a critical element of brain surgery, and accurate segmentation of brain and scalp blood vessels is crucial for surgical planning and treatment. However, conventional methods for segmenting blood vessels based on statistical or thresholding techniques have limitations. In recent years, deep learning-based methods have emerged as a promising solution for blood vessel segmentation, but the segmentation of small blood vessels and scalp blood vessels remains challenging.

Objectives: Detection of fat content in thymic lesions is essential to differentiate thymic hyperplasia from thymic tumors. This study assesses the reliability and efficacy of "iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and least-squares estimation quantization" IDEAL-IQ magnetic resonance sequence in distinguishing thymic hyperplasia from low-risk thymoma and thymic lymphoma in adulthood.

Methods: Thirty patients with thymic hyperplasia, 28 low-risk thymomas, and 13 thymic lymphomas were respectively enrolled.

Objective: The aim of this study was to systematically review the preclinical studies that have applied the static magnetic field to wound healing.

Methods: The search strategy was performed in databases: PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, CINAHL and Cochrane Database, and in gray literature. The inclusion criteria were: Pre-clinical studies, either with a separate control/sham parallel-group or cross-over design in rodents that used magnets to treat skin injuries anywhere on the body.
