Objective: To compare the biomechanical properties of the superficial (human acellular dermis); (AlloDerm; LefeCell Corp, Branchburg, NJ) and deep layers of cadaveric dermis and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE); (Gore-Tex; W. L. Gore & Associates, Flagstaff, Ariz).
Methods: Sixteen samples of superficial dermis (AlloDerm), 12 samples of deep dermis, and 12 samples of ePTFE were axial loaded on a materials testing machine. Maximum load to failure and stiffness were calculated and statistical analysis was performed to compare the materials.
Results: Dermis samples had statistically greater mean stiffness compared with ePTFE samples. There was no statistical difference of maximum load to failure comparing ePTFE with superficial dermis. There was a statistical difference in maximum load to failure between ePTFE and deep dermis. There was no statistical difference between the superficial and deep layers of the dermis with respect to stiffness or maximum load to failure.
Conclusions: Cadaveric dermis has some biomechanical properties to be a superior material for static facial suspension. There was larger than expected variability in both parameters (stiffness and maximum load to failure) tested in dermis samples, which may correlate with occasional clinical failure.

Based on the symmetric initiation mechanism of double-wing cracks in coal rock mass induced by high-pressure electro-recoil water pressure, fracturing experiments have been performed on coal rock mass under different water pressures and discharge conditions using high-voltage electric pulse hydraulic fracturing devices. Combined with CT scans, the crack spatial distribution inside the post-break coal rock mass was analyzed and found that the edge of the water injection hole is prone to produce double-wing cracks along the drilling hole diameter. ABAQUS is used to verify the physical test and extend the test conditions, the geometric parameter change, morphological expansion rule and crack initiation mechanism of double-wing crack in coal rock mass under different discharge conditions and ground stress conditions are studied.

Sulfur nanoparticles (SNPs) and their composites are promising for heavy metal adsorption, yet current SNPs often lack surface S, leading to low affinity toward heavy metal and ease of aggregation. Here, we report a simple light-driven method for facile prepare SNPs with surfaces enriched with S and in-situ load them onto graphene oxide (GO) to fabricate GO-S composites. Under illumination, the O generated by photosensitizer phloxine B was able to oxidize S into elemental SNPs.

Excavators, a type of human-operated construction machinery, suffer from poor hydraulic load braking stability, which seriously affects operator comfort. To address this challenge, this study investigates load braking laws through model analysis and designs an open-loop control algorithm called command reshaping, which can prolong the small-opening time of the main valve by segmentally adjusting the joystick command during load braking and then actively adjusting the key parameters reflecting the system's kinetic-potential energy state, thereby suppressing braking oscillations. The experimental results based on a 1.

Background: Achilles tendinopathy (AT) management can be difficult, given the paucity of effective treatment options and the degenerative nature of the condition. Innovative therapies for Achilles tendinopathy are therefore direly needed. New therapeutic developments predominantly begin with preclinical animal and in vitro studies to understand the effects at the molecular level and to evaluate toxicity.

The mechanical properties of multi-lithologic reservoir rock masses are complex, and the failure mechanism is not clear. This research belongs to the field of oil and gas exploration and development. Brazilian splitting, and digital image correlation (DIC) tests were performed to study the mechanical properties and failure mechanism of assemblages containing sandstone, shale, and limestone.
