In this paper, a method of harmonics extraction from Higher Order Statistics (HOS) is developed for texture decomposition. We show that the diagonal slice of the fourth-order cumulants is proportional to the autocorrelation of a related noiseless sinusoidal signal with identical frequencies. We propose to use this fourth-order cumulants slice to estimate a power spectrum from which the harmonic frequencies can be easily extracted. Hence, a texture can be decomposed into deterministic components and indeterministic components as in a unified texture model through a Wold-like decomposition procedure. The simulation and experimental results demonstrated that this method is effective for texture decomposition and it performs better than traditional lower order statistics based decomposition methods.

A convenient method is proposed using a heat-treatable volatile template to prepare hierarchical porous biochar (HPB). Litsea cubeba leaves and ZIF-8 served as carbon source and volatile hard template, respectively. The good compatibility between ZIF-8 and biomass facilitated their uniform dispersion, and the thermal decomposition of ZIF-8 created abundant pores in the HPB.

The photocatalytic reduction of CO to useful products is an area of active research because it shows a potential to be an efficient tool for mitigating climate change. This work investigated the modification of titania with copper(II) nitrate and its impact on improving the CO reduction efficiency in a gas-phase batch photoreactor under UV-Vis irradiation. The investigated photocatalysts were prepared by treating P25-copper(II) nitrate suspensions (with various Cu concentrations), alkalized with ammonia water, in a microwave-assisted solvothermal reactor.
