Regulation of PPARγ in the development of early sheep embryos in vitro.

Theriogenology

March 2025

College of Animal Science and Technology, Shihezi University, Shihezi, 832003, China. Electronic address:

Lipid metabolism plays an important role in the regulation of early embryonic development in mammals. However, the effect of lipid metabolism mediated by peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) on the early embryonic development of sheep remains unclear. In this study, rosiglitazone (RSG), a PPARγ activator, was added to the in vitro embryo culture (IVC) medium to regulate the continuous expression of PPARγ.

Ergosterol peroxide (EP) is a steroidal compound isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine Ganoderma lucidum. However, EP is limited by its solubility and moderate potency in antitumor studies. In the present study, a series of novel ergosterol peroxide-3-thiazolidinedione derivatives were designed and synthesized, by changing the linker between ergosterol peroxide and thiazolidinedione, it is expected to obtain compounds with better antitumor activity.

Benefits of combining SGLT2 inhibitors and pioglitazone on risk of MASH in type 2 diabetes-A real-world study.

Diabetes Obes Metab

February 2025

Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong, Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of combining pioglitazone, GLP1RA, and SGLT2i on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) in patients with type 2 diabetes.
  • Results from 888 patients showed that using more of these medications correlated with significant improvements in liver health, as measured by changes in the FAST score over a median follow-up of 3.9 years.
  • Specifically, the combination of SGLT2i and pioglitazone was associated with the highest likelihood of achieving better FAST score outcomes, suggesting a promising approach for managing MASH in diabetic patients.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a major neurological disorder and a leading cause of dementia, which is characterized by progressive cognitive decline. Emerging research highlights the link between AD and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), suggesting that shared pathophysiological mechanisms, such as insulin resistance, inflammation, and oxidative stress, contribute to both conditions. This connection has led to the concept of type 3 diabetes.

Introduction: Diabetes is associated with a high economic burden in China; therefore, strategies to prevent diabetes, improve glycaemic control, delay disease-related complications and maintain quality of life are essential. This study was conducted to evaluate trends in treatment patterns and glycaemic control in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in real-world clinical practice in Tianjin, China.

Methods: This retrospective, cross-sectional, multicentre study analysed data from adults with T2D living in Tianjin, China between 2015 and 2019, based on information obtained from a regional electronic medical record database.
