The objective of this study was to obtain data on the susceptibility of pathogens responsible for acute uncomplicated cystitis in South Korea to currently used antimicrobial agents. A total of 239 isolates were obtained from female outpatients with acute uncomplicated cystitis. The most prevalent causative organism was Escherichia coli (79.9%), followed by coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) (4.2%) and Enterobacteriaceae (8.2%). The mean rates of susceptibility to commonly prescribed drugs are ampicillin 35.5%, cefazolin 89.1%, ciprofloxacin 85.7%, and trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole (TMP/SMX) 62.1%. Regionally, resistance to TMP/SMX among E. coli now exceeds 30% in all regions. The high prevalence of resistance among uropathogens requires on going surveillance to ensure the provision of effective empirical therapy for acute uncomplicated cystitis.

Purpose: We report a single case of ocular decompression retinopathy (ODR) following neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser peripheral iridotomy (Nd:YAG LPI) for primary acute angle-closure glaucoma associated with delayed visual recovery secondary to optic nerve head edema and macular thickening.
Observations: A 56-year-old female patient presented to the emergency department with primary acute angle-closure glaucoma. After topical and IV therapy did not improve intraocular pressure (IOP), an Nd:YAG LPI was performed.

Purpose: Recurrent cystitis, particularly common in women, substantially diminishes patient quality of life and represents a major clinical practice and public health burden. Increasing development of resistance to antibiotics has encouraged the search for alternative treatments. The benefits of a food supplement associating two strains with proanthocyanidin A-rich cranberry and cinnamon extracts were evaluated in 80 women with a history of cystitis recurrence.

Background: No clinical trials have compared the efficacy and safety of beta-lactam antibiotics and fluoroquinolones in acute uncomplicated bacterial tonsillitis. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid), cefpodoxime proxetil, and levofloxacin monotherapy in patients with acute uncomplicated bacterial tonsillitis.
Methods: This was a prospective, open-label, parallel-group study where 90 patients with acute uncomplicated bacterial tonsillitis were equally divided into three groups to receive either tablet co-amoxiclav 625 mg thrice daily, tablet cefpodoxime proxetil 200 mg twice daily, or tablet levofloxacin 500 mg once daily for five days.
