Melanoma progression is well defined in its clinical, histopathological and biological aspects, but the molecular mechanism involved and the genetic markers associated to metastatic dissemination are only beginning to be defined. The recent development of high-throughput technologies aimed at global molecular profiling of cancer is switching on the spotlight at previously unknown candidate genes involved in melanoma, such as WNT5A and BRAF. In fact, several tumor suppressors and oncogenes have been shown to be involved in melanoma pathogenesis, including CDKN2A, PTEN, TP53, RAS and MYC, though they have not been related to melanoma subtypes or validated as prognostic markers. Here, we have reviewed the published data relative to the major genes involved in melanoma pathogenesis, which may represent important markers for the identification of genetic profiles of melanoma subtypes.

Background: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is an aggressive tumor with unclear margins. Photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) enables the differentiation of tumor tissue from normal tissue via visible fluorescence. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is widely used in the treatment of non-melanoma skin tumors.

Melanoma, an aggressive skin cancer originating from melanocytes, presents substantial challenges due to its high metastatic potential and resistance to conventional therapies. Hydrogels, 3D networks of hydrophilic polymers with high water-retention capacities, offer significant promise for controlled drug delivery applications. In this study, we report the synthesis and characterization of hydrogelators based on the triazine molecular scaffold, which self-assemble into fibrous networks conducive to hydrogel formation.

This case presents a rare and aggressive manifestation of malignant melanoma, initially presenting as a chest wall swelling in a young male with a history of trauma and subsequent management for hemothorax and pyothorax. The complexity of this case lies in its atypical presentation and the challenges posed in diagnosis and treatment. A 30-year-old gentleman presented to the general surgery clinic with a chief complaint of swelling on the right side of his chest, persisting for two months following a traumatic fall, which later resulted in hemothorax and prothorax required drainage and eventually ended up developing a swelling requiring further investigations.

Choroidal nevus is the most common intraocular tumor, and most cases are benign and have no symptoms. However, choroidal nevus carries a low risk for transformation into melanoma, which is a highly aggressive and deadly cancer. In this case report, we present a male patient with blurred vision in his left eye for six months.

Background: Survivorship care plans (SCPs), ie, personalized health care plans for cancer survivors, can be used to support the growing group of melanoma survivors throughout their disease trajectory. However, implementation and effectiveness of SCPs are suboptimal and could benefit from the involvement of stakeholders in developing a user-centered design.
Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the ideal SCP for patients with melanoma in terms of functions and features to be included according to different stakeholders and to explore their underlying motives.
