The Arabidopsis thalina genome database was searched for homologues of the Candida cloacae fao1 gene which encodes a membrane bound, flavin-containing, hydrogen peroxide generating, long chain alcohol oxidase. This gene has not been isolated from plants or animals. Four putative candidates were found in the database but their function has not been proven. The cDNAs for two of them were cloned by RT-PCR from Arabidopis suspension culture and one of them [AtFAO3] was overexpressed in Escherichia coli and shown to functionally express long chain alcohol oxidase activity. The protein has been solubilised and retains biological activity thereby preparing the way for crystallographic studies. This is the first functional proof identifying a long chain alcohol oxidase in higher plants.

Methods: Our study involved analyzing gene chips from the substantia nigra and white blood cells, both normal and PD-inclusive, in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, utilizing a weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). The technique of WGCNA facilitated the examination of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the substantia nigra and the white blood cells of individuals with PD.

At least 10% of proteins constituting the human proteome are subject to S-acylation by a long-chain fatty acid, thioesterified to a Cys thiol side chain. Fatty S-acylation (prototypically, S-palmitoylation) operates across eukaryotic phylogeny and cell type. S-palmitoylation is carried out in mammalian cells by a family of 23-24 dedicated zDHHC palmitoyl transferase enzymes, and mutation of zDHHCs is associated with a number of human pathophysiologies.

The recycling of spent lithium-ion batteries has become a common concern of the whole society, with a large number of studies on recycling management and recycling technology, but there is relatively little study on the pollution release during the recycling process. Pollution will restrict the healthy development of the recycling industry, which makes relevant research very significant. This paper monitored and analyzed the battery recycling pretreatment process in a formal factory, and studied the pollution characteristics of particulate matter, heavy metals, and microplastics under different treatment stages.
