High-resolution X-ray diffraction data have been collected on the cubic polymorph of antimony(III) oxide (senarmontite) to determine the charge distribution in the crystal. The results are in quantitative agreement with crystal Hartree-Fock calculations for this polymorph, and have been compared with theoretical calculations on the orthorhombic polymorph (valentinite). Information about the nature of bonding and relative bond strengths in the two polymorphs has been extracted in a straightforward manner via topological analysis of the electron density. All the close contacts in both polymorphs are found to be similar in nature based on the value of the Laplacian, the magnitude of the electron density and the local energy density at the bond critical points, and these characterise the observed interactions as substantially polar covalent, similar to molecular calculation results on Si-O and Ge-O. Electrostatic potential isosurfaces reveal the octopolar nature of this function for senarmontite, and shed light on the observed packing arrangement of Sb4O6 molecules in the crystal.

The ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of l-lactide (l-LA) is the main method for synthesizing poly(l-lactide) (PLLA), in which choosing the catalyst is one of the most important parameters. In this work, we focused on the systematic study of catalysts based on p-block elements from period 5, such as indium(iii), tin(ii), tin(iv) and antimony(iii) acetates, which displayed contrasting performances influenced by the oxidation state of the metal center. Analysis of the obtained oligomers by different techniques, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF), revealed the selectivity of each catalyst toward the ROP of l-LA.

Antimony (Sb) is one of the most concerning toxic metals globally, making the study of methods for efficiently removing Sb(III) from water increasingly urgent. This study uses graphene oxide and chitosan as the matrix (GOCS), modifying them with FeCl and four MnO to form iron-manganese oxide (FM/GC) at a Fe/Mn molar ratio of 4:1. FM/GC quaternary composite microspheres are prepared, showing that FM/GC obtained from different MnO exhibits significant differences in the ability to remove Sb(III) from neutral solutions.

A new class of antimony(III) corroles has been described. The photophysical properties of these newly synthesized tetrakis(thiocyano)corrolatoantimony(III) derivatives having four SCN groups on the bipyrrole unit of corrole are drastically altered compared to their β-unsubstituted corrolatoantimony(III) analogues. The UV-vis and emission spectra of tetrakis(thiocyano)corrolatoantimony(III) derivatives are significantly red-shifted (roughly 30-40 nm) in comparison with their β-unsubstituted corrolatoantimony(III) derivatives.

Sorption and oxidation are two potential pathways for the decontamination of trivalent antimony (Sb(III))-bearing water, using iron (Fe)-modified biochar (FeBC). Here we investigated the sorption and oxidation behavior of FeBC for Sb(III) in aqueous solutions. Results revealed that Sb(III) removal by FeBC was significantly improved showing the maximum Sb(III) sorption (64.
