An immunocapture reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (IC/RT-LAMP) was developed for the detection of tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) from chrysanthemum. This method enabled sensitive, reproducible and specific detection of TSWV from chrysanthemum plants. In the RT-LAMP method, TSWV genomic RNA could be amplified under isothermal (65 degrees C) conditions within 1 h. The resulting amplicons were detected by the measurement or observation of the turbidity of the reaction mixture without gel electrophoresis. IC/RT-LAMP was 100 times more sensitive than IC/RT-PCR.

Background: Serum free light chains (FLCs) are an essential clinical biomarker for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with plasma cell neoplasms. The current widely used immunoassay methods quantify total serum FLCs, which include monoclonal FLCs as well as FLCs in the polyclonal background. Patients with chronic diseases, inflammatory disorders, or renal dysfunction can have elevated total FLCs that lead to ambiguous results.

Pathogens encapsulate or encode their own suite of enzymes to facilitate replication in the host. The pathogen-derived enzymes possess specialized activities that are essential for pathogen replication and have naturally been candidates for drug targets. Phenotypic assays detecting the activities of pathogen-derived enzymes and characterizing their inhibition under drugs offer an opportunity for pathogen detection, drug resistance testing for individual patients, and as a research tool for new drug development.
