The utility of "incomplete" genetic animal models of human diseases, in particular, psychoses, is discussed. The GC rat strain selected for predisposition to cataleptic reactions is described. It is shown that in many of their characteristics, GC rats are similar to schizophrenic and depressive patients. A possibility that akinetic catatonic states and depressions, hyperkinetic catatonic states and mania share common mechanisms is discussed. It is hypothesized that the GC strain may be an incomplete model of the common genetic and pathogenetic core of schizophrenic substuporous states and depression, which suggests the importance of returning to the issue of a unitary psychosis (Einheitpsychosis).

is a foodborne pathogen linked to severe infections in infants and often associated with contaminated powdered infant formula. The RecA protein, a key player in DNA repair and recombination, also influences bacterial resilience and virulence. This study investigated the impact of deletion on the pathogenicity and environmental stress tolerance of BAA-894.

Behavioral copying is a key process in group actions, but it is challenging for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We investigated behavioral contagion, or instinctual replication of behaviors, in Krushinky-Molodkina (KM) rats ( = 16), a new potential rodent model for ASD, compared to control Wistar rats ( = 15). A randomly chosen healthy Wistar male ("demonstrator rat") was introduced to the homecage of experimental rats ("observers") 10-14 days before the experiments to become a member of the group.

Hypobaric hypoxia exposure occurs at high altitudes, including plateaus, and affects normal intestinal function and microbiota composition. Exposure induces an intestinal inflammatory response and oxidative stress injury, ultimately disrupting intestinal homeostasis and causing barrier damage. Thus, due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and intestinal microbiota-regulating properties, is a potentially effective probiotic intervention to protect the intestinal barrier during low-pressure hypoxia on plateaus.

Serum levels of vitamin D (VD) are inversely correlated with the incidence or severity of COVID-19. This study aimed to investigate the effects of inactivated COVID-19 virus (ICoV-19) immunization on VD levels, as well as biochemical and hematological parameters in adult male Sprague-Dawley rats. Twenty rats were randomly divided into two groups of 10: the control group (group I) and the ICoV-19-receiving group (group II).

Background: Genetically immunodeficient mice lacking Il2rg and Rag2 genes have been widely utilized in the field of biomedical research. However, immunodeficient rats, which offer the advantage of larger size, have not been as extensively used to date. Recently, Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) rats were generated using CRISPR/Cas9 system, targeting Il2rg and Rag2 in National BioResource Project in Japan.
