BACKGROUND Lupus anticoagulants (LA) can interfere with routine coagulation tests such as the activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) and prothrombin time (PT). The international normalized ratio (INR) is derived from PT and is used to monitor warfarin therapy. Antiphospholipid syndrome is an autoimmune disease that frequently manifests as recurrent arterial and/or venous thrombotic events, ischemic strokes, and miscarriages. Antiphospholipid syndrome affecting primarily the arteries is less common as compared to venous thrombosis.
