Importance: Three similar phase 3 randomized clinical trials have investigated PD-1/PD-L1 (programmed cell death 1 protein/programmed cell death 1 ligand 1) inhibitors in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy vs chemotherapy alone as first-line treatment for advanced urothelial carcinoma (IMvigor130, atezolizumab; KEYNOTE-361, pembrolizumab; and CheckMate901, nivolumab). Only CheckMate901 reported overall survival (OS) benefit for the combination. The reason for these inconsistent results is unclear.

The rise of two-dimensional (2D) materials has provided a confined geometry and yielded methods for guiding electrons at the nanoscale level. 2D material-enabled electronic devices can interact and transduce the subtle charge perturbation and permit significant advancement in molecule discrimination technology with high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity, leaving a significant impact on disease diagnosis and health monitoring. However, high-performance biosensors with scalable fabrication ability and simple protocols have yet to be fully realized due to the challenges in wafer-scale 2D film synthesis and integration with electronics.

Rapid and sensitive detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is of great significance for cancer patients. Here, molybdenum (Mo) was doped into bismuth oxide (BiO) by one-pot hydrothermal method forming porous tremella BiMoO nanocomposites with a larger specific surface area than the spherical structure. Then, a new kind of hydrangea-like TiO/BiMoO porous nanoflowers (NFs) was prepared by doping titanium into BiMoO, where titanium dioxide (TiO) grew in situ on the surface of BiMoO nanoparticles (NPs).

Introduction: Active targeting of tumors by nanomaterials favors early diagnosis and the reduction of harsh side effects of chemotherapeuticals.

Methods: We synthesized magnetic nanoparticles (64 nm; -40 mV) suspended in a magnetic fluid (MF) and decorated them with anti-carcinoembryonic antigen (MFCEA; 144 nm; -39 mV). MF and MFCEA nanoparticles were successfully radiolabeled with technetium-99m (Tc) and intravenously injected in CEA-positive 4T1 tumor-bearing mice to perform biodistribution studies.

Solid tumor antibody-drug conjugates (ADC) have experienced more clinical success in the last 5 years than the previous 18-year span since the first ADC approval in 2000. While recent advances in protein engineering, linker design, and payload variations have played a role in this success, high expression and readily internalized targets have also been crucial to solid tumor therapy. However, these factors are also paradoxically connected to poor tissue penetration and lower efficacy.
