Published: September 2004

Whilst contact angle measurements obtained using the Wilhelmy balance technique are accurate and reproducible for planar surfaces, their use for characterizing particulate materials is highly dependent upon accurate knowledge of the wet perimeter. This communication suggests that the approach of Pepin et al. [Int. J. Pharm. 152 (1997) 1] for wet perimeter determination using non-polar liquids may lead to erroneous conclusions. Alternative approaches for wet perimeter determination are suggested.

Mangrove leaves have unique features that enable them to cope with shifting environmental conditions while preserving their general functionality and efficiency. We examined the morphological characteristics and chlorophyll content (spectroscopically) of 600 mature leaves selected from 30 trees located in one degraded, one restored, and one natural mangrove ecosystem along Guyana's coastline. Systematic sampling was carried out using the closest individual sampling method in the wet and dry seasons.

Propionic acid (PPA) is used to study the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in neurodevelopmental conditions like autism spectrum disorders. PPA is known to disrupt mitochondrial biogenesis, metabolism, and turnover. However, the effect of PPA on mitochondrial dynamics, fission, and fusion remains challenging to study due to the complex temporal nature of these mechanisms.

Research on the improvement of wetted perimeter method and application in seasonal rivers-a case study of Fenhe River, China.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

August 2023

College of Water Conservancy Science and Engineering, Taiyuan University of Technology, Taiyuan, 030024, China.

Environmental flow is vital for maintaining river ecosystem health and ensuring the normal growth of aquatic organisms. The wetted perimeter method is indeed very useful in the assessment of environmental flow due to consideration of stream forms and minimum flow for aquatic life habitat. In this study, a river with obvious seasonality and external water diversion was selected as the typical research object; taking Jingle, Lancun, Fenhe Reservoir, and Yitang hydrological sections as control sections, we improved the existing wetted perimeter method in three aspects: (1) We improved the selection of hydrological data series.
