Based on the pollen combination, 14C dating, and depositional facies analysis of Momoge profile in Zhenlai County, Jilin Province, three pollen belts were divided. The results showed that Momoge Lake was formed by blocked paleo-river course depression 1500 years ago, which included three development stages, i.e., the period when river converted into lake, the early period of lake development, and the steady period. Its corresponding plant types were Artemisia-Chenopodium grassland, Artemisia-Chenopodium grassland accompanied by Betula, and meadow grassland, and its paleo-climate was dry-cold, warm-dry, and then cool-wet, and there was a warm-dry tendency in recent fifty years.

Understanding water dynamics is a prerequisite for the restoration of degraded ecosystems in arid and semiarid regions. In this study, we carried out δD and δO analyses of precipitation, unsaturated soil water, overland flow, surface runoff, and groundwater samples from a seasonally flooded wetland in the Momoge National Nature Reserve of the Songnen Plain, Northeast China, to identify the water sources and understand the mechanisms of unsaturated soil water movement. Unsaturated soil water content (W/W%) at every 20 cm along with a soil profile (0-100 cm) was collected during the growing season, and the HYDRUS-1D model was used to simulate temporal-spatial variations.

Vegetation is a sensitive factor in marsh ecosystems, which can provide nesting sites, foraging areas, and hiding places for waterfowl and can affect their survival environment. The Jilin Momoge National Nature Reserve, which consists of large areas of marshes, is located in the semi-arid region of northeast China and is an important stopover site for the critically endangered species of the Siberian Crane (). Global climate change, extreme droughts and floods, and large differences in evaporation and precipitation in this region can cause rapid vegetation succession.

Quantitative assessment of hydrological connectivity is a hot but difficult issue in current research. Using the 30-m resolution global monthly surface water remote sensing dataset released by the EU Joint Research Center and three indicators of geostatistical connectivity, maximum distance of connection (MDC), and surface water extent of connectome (., seasonally connected water bodies), we quantified the hydrological connectivity of surface water in Momoge National Nature Reserve in different months of a normal year (May to October 2016), and in September of different hydrological years (a wet year, namely 1998; a normal year, namely 2016; a drought year, namely 2002), and different directions (west-east and north-south).
