Spontaneous cervical epidural haematoma during pregnancy.

Published: April 2004

Spontaneous cervical epidural haematoma is very rare during pregnancy. We describe a woman who presented with tetraplegia at 41 weeks of pregnancy. She had no previous history of any relevant medical disorder. Her upper level of anaesthesia was at the second thoracic segment. The condition was diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging, and both caesarean section and decompression were conducted 12 hours after the event. The neurological deficit showed little recovery. Histology was non-specific and follow-up magnetic resonance imaging showed spinal cord ischaemia. The prognosis in this condition depends on the interval of time between onset and decompression.

: The aim was to evaluate vestibular function in patients with unilateral vestibular schwannoma before and in the short and medium term after surgical treatment to analyze vestibular compensation. The identification of the prognostic factors determining incomplete and slower balance recovery was assessed. Forty-five patients with unilateral vestibular schwannoma treated surgically through the middle cranial fossa and translabyrinthine approach were enrolled in this study.

Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder arising de novo or with an autosomal dominant transmission that typically presents either at birth or in early childhood, manifesting through distinctive clinical features such as multiple café-au-lait spots, benign tumors in the skin, bone enlargement, and deformities. This literature review aims to resume the spectrum of maternal and fetal complications encountered in pregnant women with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Thorough research was conducted on databases such as Web of Science, PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Wiley Online Library.

Ultrasound Evaluation of Upper Limb Sublesional Muscle Morphology in Cervical Spinal Cord Injury.

Muscle Nerve

January 2025

International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Introduction/aims: Upper limb paralysis is arguably the most limiting consequence of cervical spinal cord injury (cSCI). There is limited knowledge regarding the early structural changes of muscles implicated in grasp/pinch function and upper extremity nerve transfer surgeries. We evaluated: (1) muscle size and echo intensity (EI) in subacute cSCI (2-6 months) and (2) the influence of lower motor neuron (LMN) damage on these ultrasound parameters.

Background: Female recipients of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation are at high risk of developing human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated lesions and (pre)cancer. We describe the results of a cervical cancer screening program in these women.

Methods: From 2010 to 2022, 70 female recipients of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in our institution entered a standardized protocol of gynecological evaluation.
