The following review discusses the successful application of X-ray, NMR, and molecular modeling in the design of potent and selective inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and TNFalpha-converting enzyme (TACE) from Wyeth. The importance of protein and ligand mobility as it impacts structure-based design is also discussed. The MMPs are an active target for a variety of diseases, including cancer and arthritis.

Introduction: Blunt traumatic aortic injury (TAI) is a critical condition and a leading cause of mortality in trauma patients, often resulting from high-speed accidents. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) has developed into the preferred therapeutic approach due to its minimally invasive nature and promising outcomes. This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of TEVAR for managing TAI over a 10-year period at a Level-1 trauma center.

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-targeted positron emission tomography (PET) has improved localization of prostate cancer (PC) lesions in biochemical recurrence (BCR) for salvage radiotherapy (SRT). We conducted a retrospective review of patients undergoing F-rhPSMA-7 or F-flotufolastat (F-rhPSMA-7.3)-PET-guided SRT compared with conventional-SRT (C-SRT) without PET.

Bruch´s membrane (BM) is firmly connected posteriorly to the optic nerve head through the peripapillary choroidal border tissue, and anteriorly through the longitudinal ciliary muscle to the scleral spur. We assessed, whether a difference in the contractile state of the ciliary muscle influences the position of the posterior BM by lifting the posterior BM pole, i.e.

The development of optical sensors for label-free quantification of cell parameters has numerous uses in the biomedical arena. However, using current optical probes requires the laborious collection of sufficiently large datasets that can be used to calibrate optical probe signals to true metabolite concentrations. Further, most practitioners find it difficult to confidently adapt black box chemometric models that are difficult to troubleshoot in high-stakes applications such as biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

The incidence of blast injuries has been rising globally, particularly affecting the lungs due to their vulnerability. Primary blast lung injury (PBLI) is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, while early diagnostic methods are limited. With advancements in medical technology, and portable handheld ultrasound devices, the efficacy of ultrasound in detecting occult lung injuries early remains unclear.
