In the gastric glands, parietal cells are the targets for anti-ulcer drugs because they contain the proton pump or HK-ATPase responsible for acid secretion. Little is known about factors influencing developmental expression and activity of HK-ATPase. In this study, the parietal cell lineage was investigated in rabbits at post-natal days 0 (P0) to P60 by using morphological and biochemical methods. Immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies show that the HK-ATPase-expressing cells that appear at P0 and P3 are pre-parietal cells. However, terminally differentiated, mature parietal cells make their appearance at P7. These data correlate with the activity of HK-ATPase, measured as K(+)-dependent hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl phosphate. Three-day-retinol treatment of P3-P30 rabbits induced an increase in the (i) production of parietal cells, (ii) intensity of the HK-ATPase immunostaining per cell, (iii) activity of HK-ATPase and (iv) amount of HK-ATPase protein measured by Western blotting. In conclusion, retinol upregulates the development of HK-ATPase in rabbits, perhaps due to precocious acceleration of the differentiation program of parietal cell lineage.

Parietal Epithelial Cells (PECs) activation and proliferation are common to several distinct forms of glomerulopathies. Due to several stimuli, PECs can change to a progenitor (CD24 and CD133/2) or a pro-sclerotic (CD44) phenotype. In addition, PECs, which are constantly exposed to filtered albumin, are known to be involved in albumin internalization, but how this mechanism occurs is unknown.

Unlabelled: Tuberculosis (TB) can affect any organ, and at times more than one organ in any sequence, in which case it is referred to as disseminated tuberculosis (DTB). We report a patient who presented primarily for psychiatric symptoms of three months' duration, which later turned out to be a case of DTB involving the central nervous system as well as the spine and lungs.
Case Presentation: An elderly lady with subacute onset and worsening behavioural changes of three months' duration was referred for exclusion of organic brain disease.

Hesperidin exhibits promising potential as a feed additive for augmenting gastric acid secretion in animals. Gastrointestinal function is essential for animal growth and the efficient digestion of dietary nutrients, with gastric acid secretion serving as one of its critical components. The secretion of gastric acid, together with other digestive fluids and substances, significantly influences the digestion and absorption of animal feed, which in turn affects growth performance.

This study describes the congenital goiter in an alpaca (Vicugna pacos) fetus aborted in November 2021 with the clinical and pathological findings in the dam that was found dead on the farm three weeks after a miscarriage. The dam was a black coat alpaca bred in the Netherlands, imported in Italy in January 2021, and housed in a farm of central Italy for breeding purposes. Signalment and clinical data on dam and fetus were collected from the farmer and referring veterinarian.

Mucopolysaccharidosis type I (MPS I) is an inherited lysosomal storage disorder leading to deleterious brain effects. While animal models suggested that MPS I severely affects white matter (WM), whole-brain diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) analysis was not performed due to MPS-related morphological abnormalities. 3T DTI data from 28 severe (MPS IH, treated with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation-HSCT), 16 attenuated MPS I patients (MPS IA) enrolled under the study protocol NCT01870375, and 27 healthy controls (HC) were analyzed using the free-water correction (FWC) method to resolve macrostructural partial volume effects and unravel differences in DTI metrics accounting for microstructural abnormalities.
