Objectives: Polymorphisms of transporters associated with antigen-processing (TAP) genes might influence the susceptibility to schizophrenia by altering the antigen-processing pathway. The aim of this study was to verify the relationship between schizophrenia and the polymorphisms of TAP2 genes.
Method: Two hundred and fifty-seven Korean patients diagnosed with schizophrenia according to DSM-IV and 184 normal controls participated in this study. TAP2 polymorphic residues at positions 379, 565 and 665 were typed using amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction single-strand conformation polymorphism.
Results: Distribution of the alleles and genotypes in patients with schizophrenia was not significantly different from those of controls.
Conclusions: This study did not show the association of the TAP2 gene with schizophrenia in the Korean population.

Major histocompatibility complex class I deficiency results from deleterious biallelic variants in TAP1, TAP2, TAPBP, and B2M genes. Only a few patients with variant-curated TAP1 deficiency (TAP1D) have been reported in the literature and the clinical phenotype has been variable with an emphasis on autoimmune and inflammatory complications. We report TAP1D in a Nepalese girl with a severe clinical phenotype with serious viral infections at a very young age.

Herpes Simplex Virus 1 evades the host immune system by expressing a protein, ICP47, that binds to and inhibits the heterodimeric Transporter Associated with Antigen Processing (TAP). We screened a library of 1786 variants in TAP2, one of the components of the TAP heterodimer, and identified 39 variants that were resistant to inhibition by ICP47. Of these 39 variants, five were individually tested, and three (T257I, S274H, and T244R) were confirmed to be significantly resistant to inhibition by ICP47.
